In fact, they date back only to the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s in an episode meant to entice the baby boomers less interested in Byzantine art or Tiffany lamps then they are, say, an early “Peanuts” comic strip, a cardboard standee from Elvis’ movie “Love Me Tender,” a letter signed by Martin Luther King Jr. (bought at the estate sale of a Nixon biographer) or a pinup painting.

What was discovered this year? If anything was, it will be covered on “The Year in Science 2014” (Science, 10 p.m.), a year-end review that won’t include Taylor Swift.

On the other hand “YouTube’s Top News Stories of 2014” (Fusion, 9:30 p.m.) is likely to involve an inordinate amount of performing cats.

The last of three two-hour episodes of “The Great Christmas Lights” (ABC, 8 p.m.) pits families against each other competing for money that may offset their inflated electric bills.

It’s unlikely that any of the sketches from last weekend’s show will make “A Saturday Night Live Christmas” (NBC, 8 p.m.) annual compendium of familiar sketches.

Mike’s plan to be home for Christmas goes awry on “Mike & Molly” (CBS, 8:30 p.m.).

It is one of only two new episodes of scripted prime time TV tonight. The other is the midseason finale of “State of Affairs” (NBC, 10 p.m.) in which Charlie accompanies the President to Quatar.

A bank robber dressed as Santa folds into the Santa Con mob on a new holiday-tinged “Major Crimes” (TNT, 9 p.m.).

“The Trials of Muhammad Ali” gets a replay on “Independent Lens” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings).

It’s Denver at Cincinnati (ESPN, 8:15 p.m.) on Monday Night Football.

The iHeartRadio Jingle Ball 2014 (The CW, 8 p.m.) with Iggy Azalea, Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, Sam Smith, Ariana Grande, Sam Smith OneRepublic and more, gets a replay.

“Pawn Stars: A Very Vegas Christmas” (History, 9 p.m.) is repeated on an all-“Pan Stars” evening.

The Christmas themed episodes of “South Park” (Comedy Central, 8 p.m.) are on all night, even pre-empting the “Daily Show” and former “Colbert Report” slots.

The Christmas week marathons begin early, with nights full of “Parks and Recreation” (Esquire, 8 p.m.) and “The Simpsons” (FXX, 8 p.m.).

As if to pound into your head the legal standing of Santa Clase (or the precociousness of young Natalie Wood), the 1947 “Miracle on 34th Street” (AMC, 6:30 p.m., 8:45 p.m.) is repeated all day, as if it were “A Christmas Story” or something.

It’s not, but neither was “A Christmas Story 2” (CMT, 8 p.m.), the ill considered 2012 sequel.

If you want a movie with numbers in its title, go for “12 Year a Slave” (Cinemax, 8 p.m.).Later, there’s “Gravity” (HBO, 9:45 p.m.).

Christmas fare includes “Christmas in the City” (Lifetime, 8 p.m), “Single Santa Meets Mrs. Claus” (Hallmark, 8 p.m.),”The Santa Clause” (ABC Family, 8:30 p.m.),  “Crazy for Christmas” (Lifetime, 10 p.m.) and “Meet the Santas” (Hallmark, 10 p.m.)

The month-long Cary Grant salute on Turner Classic Movies continues with all the screwball stuff: “His Girl Friday” (8 p.m.), “The Awful Truth” (9:45 p.m.), “My Favorite Wife” (11:30 p.m.), “Bringing Up Baby” (1:15 a.m.), “The Philadelphia Story” (3:15 a.m.) and “Holiday” (5:15 a.m.).
