John Williams is saluted on “Great Performances” (PBS, 9 p.m.), by the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by Gustavo Dudamel playing, among other things, selections from his score for “Schindler’s List,” performed with violinist Itzhak Perlman. Also on the program: “Star Wars,” of course, but also “Jaws,” “The Empire Strikes Back” and Williams’ “Olympic Fanfare and Theme.” Excerpts of Dudamel’s interview with Williams are also included. Looking for a new series from the 49th State? “Missing in Alaska” (History, 10 p.m.) looks into the more than 20,000 people who have gone missing in the northwest corner of the state. Some say it’s some sort of mystical reason; more likely it’s just a vast area — or the “lost” people know exactly where they are, far from civilization and the latest Alaskan reality show.
Whatever happened to W. Kamau Bell? The sharp topical comic is back to host a comedy showcase from the SXSW festival that boasts Wyatt Cenac, Todd Glass, Iliza Shlesinger and Rachel Feinstein. It’s called “SXSW Comedy with W. Kamau Bell” (Showtime, 11 p.m.).
Last year’s animated “Big Hero 6” (Starz, 8 p.m.) makes its premium cable debut.
