MorganFreemanAnd on the second day of press tour, Morgan Freeman visited.

He’s host and executive producer of an upcoming  National Geographic Channel series called “The Story of God.” It’s an outgrowth of a previous science series “Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman” and involved travels to 20 cities in seven different countries to get to one of humanity’s basic question.

Of course, Freeman, with his commanding voice, has played God in the movies more than once, in both “Bruce Almighty” and “Evan Almighty.”

But that didn’t inform his inquiry, he told reporters Wednesday.

“That’s just coincidence,” Freeman said. “Playing God in the movies is strictly a matter of learning a script. It required no research beyond that.”

In researching religion for the new series, “we were concentrating on the Big Five,” Freeman said. “We didn’t have a lot of time,” he added,” so there was no reason to get into many sects.”

“The Story of God” will play out over six episodes. “We started in August,” Freeman said. “And we haven’t finished.”

And he doesn’t come to conclusions. Instead he starts talking like Donald Rumsfeld.

“There are unknowables,” he says. “There are questions that we can’t answer, except with God.”

“The Story of God” premieres in the spring on National Geographic.
