the-detour-renewed-tbsThere’s already been one bad variation on “National Lampoon’s Vacation” in the past year. Now there ’s a whole comedy series, “The Detour” (TBS, ) on a family road trip gone wrong.

There’s no doubting the comedy chops of Jason Jones, who also co-wrote the series, or the quick adaptation to the form by the always welcome Natalie Zea. But your reaction to the series may be found in how you react to kids joining in on the penis jokes. “The Detour” for its structure, is not family fare, not even for the kids involved. Better than a lot of TV comedies to be sure, “Detour,” which has already been picked up for a second season, is also the kind of show where uncomfortable trumps humor.

Jones’ wife is the co-creator of “The Detour,” but the best show coming out of that union at the moment is still her sharp weekly series of topical satire, “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” (TBS, 10:30 p.m.).

Nathan Phillips stars as an FBI agent in Baltimore investigating the disappearance of his wife when he stumbles on a secret federal anti-terrorist unit looking at aliens from other planets on the new series “Hunters” (Syfy, 10 p.m.), based on a novel by Whitley Strieber.

It follows the first season finale for the student wizards on “The Magicians” (Syfy, 9 p.m.).

Surprised that there isn’t already “The Real Housewives of Dallas” (Bravo, 10 p.m.), but it premieres tonight.

Contestants answer pop culture questions or throw them to celebrities on the new “Gay for Play Game Show Starring RuPaul” (Logo, 10 p.m.).

Fareed Zakaria reports on anti-Western feelings on the new special “Why They Hate Us” (CNN, 9 p.m.).

Mischa Barton got the boot last week on “Dancing with the Stars” (ABC, 8 p.m.). Who is next to go? Doug Flutie has the next lowest scores. Tonight’s theme is Disney, which also happens to own the network. Zendaya is a guest judge.

The bachelorette party goes all wrong for “Jane the Virgin” (The CW, 9 p.m.).

The month-long Monday night spotlight on the Barrymores on Turner Classic Movies turns to Lionel in “One Man’s Journey” (8 p.m.), “Treasure Island” (9:30 p.m.), “Young Dr. Kildare” (11:30 p.m.), “Key Largo” (1 a.m.), “Calling Dr. Kildare” (3 a.m.) and “The Secret of Dr. Kildare” (4:30 a.m.).

Baseball today includes Pittsburgh at Detroit (MLB, 1 p.m.) and Miami at Mets (ESPN, 7 p.m.).

Basketball has Atlanta at Cleveland (NBA, 7 p.m.) and Sacramento at Phoenix (NBA, 10 -.m.).
