QuarryThe latest brutal rurally-set drama from Cinemax concentrates on a Vietnam veteran in 1972 who is rebuked by society and hired by a local mob boss. Logan Marshall-Green plays the Marine who is nicknamed “Quarry” (Cinemax, 10 p.m.) in part because that’s where their first meeting occurs, but also because he’s rock hard and empty inside (so says the mob guy, played by Peter Mullan).

Based on the books by Max Allen Green, the series has a slower, contemplative feel akin to the series “Rectify.” But it is also suffused with the era’s soul music and set in Memphis. And an Otis Redding album plays a key role in the premiere episode.

A salute to Glen Campbell is part of “The 10th Annual ACM Honors” (CBS, 9 p.m.) hosted by Lady Antebellum. Performers include Miranda Lambert, Chris Young, Blake Shelton, Toby Keith and Kelsea Ballerini.

Elizabeth Vargas, the anchor on “20/20” (ABC, 10 p.m.), will also be the show’s subject tonight as Diane Sawyer interviews her about her new book on her struggles with alcohol abuse and anxiety, “Between Breaths: A memoir of Panic and Addiction.”

The comedian turned movie star returns to standup on “Martin Lawrence: Doin’ Time: Uncut” (Showtime, 9 p.m.).

“Live from Lincoln Center” (PBS, 9 p.m.) tonight won’t be; they’ll be performing from a restored tobacco barn in Kentucky for  “Simple Gifts: Chamber Music Society at Shaker Village,” including Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring” that incorporated the Shaker tune “Simple Gifts.”

“Dateline” (NBC, 9 p.m.) gets its swing at the JonBenet Ramsey case.

The coach adds two dozen more dancers on “Bring It!” (Discovery, 9 p.m.).

Flu affects the crews on “Bering Sea Gold” (Discovery, 9 p.m.).

The month-long salute to Gene Hackman on Turner Classic Movies continues with one of his best movies, “The Conversation” (8 p.m.), followed by “Scarecrow” (10 p.m.), “Young Frankenstein” (midnight), “Oh, God!” (2 a.m.) and “Young Man with a Horn” (4 a.m.).

Baseball includes Dodgers at Miami (MLB, 7 p.m.).

In college football, it’s Maryland at Florida International (CBS Sports, 7:30 p.m.) and Louisville at Syracuse (ESPN2).

The men’s semifinals arrive at the U.S. Open (ESPN, 3 and 7 p.m.). The mixed doubles final is at noon on ESPN2.

In a world cup of hockey exhibition, it’s U.S. vs. Canada (ESPNU, 7 p.m.).
