Besides being so funny Zach Galifianakis is a pretty good political commentator from his talks “Between Two Ferns” to now on “America Divided: Democracy for Sale” (Epix, 9 p.m.), in which he looks into the gerrymandering and squeezing of voting rights in his native state of North Carolina.

The eighth season starts for “The Vampire Diaries” (The CW, 8 p.m.) with Stefan still in search of damon and Enzo. Its start comes just before Halloween, as dos the ninth season of “A Haunting” (TLC, 9 p.m.).

More vampire stuff happens on “Van Helsing” (Syfy, 10 p.m.).

But things are always scary on “The Exorcist” (Fox, 9 p.m.).

Way too soon for “High Maintenance” (HBO, 11 p.m.) to be ending its first season.

It’s the wrong week for “Real Time with Bill Maher” (HBO, 10 p.m.) to take off. They play a rerun of last week’s show, bookended by Ann Coulter and Bernie Sanders.

Remaining chefs on “Hell’s Kitchen” (Fox, 8 p.m.) have a seafood challenge.

“MacGyver” (CBS, 8 p.m.) has to fix a sabotaged train.

Surprised it took until episode five to reach nuclear war on “Doomsday: 10 Ways the World Will End” (History, 9 p.m.). It does beat solar storm, which is covered at 10 p.m.

Guns are stolen from a gun range on “Hawaii Five-0” (CBS, 9 p.m.).

Mental hospital residents capture Doc on a new “Z Nation” (Syfy, 9 p.m.).

A gang is raided on “Blue Bloods” (CBS, 10 p.m.).

Two new episodes of “Loosely Exactly Nicole” (MTV, 10:30 p.m.) run on an unusual night for the comedy.

Jwoww of “Jersey Shore” joins “Burgers, Brew & ‘Que” (Food, 9 p.m.) on a visit to culinary spots in Washington, D.C.

Mike dresses like Trump on the Halloween episode of “Last Man Standing” (ABC, 8 p.m.). “Dr. Ken” (ABC, 8:30 p.m.) tells Korean ghost stories on its Halloween episode.

Other spooky things? “Ghosts of Sheperdstown” (TLC, 8 p.m.) visits paranormal things in West Virginia and in the new “Kindred Spirits” (TLC, 10 p.m.) a pair of ghost hunters help families who are haunted, starting in Pennsylvania.

October’s Friday night Terror Classic Movies on Turner Classic Movies continues with “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” (8 p.m.), “Eyes Without a Face” (10 p.m.), “The Body Snatcher” (11:45 p.m.), “Phantom of the Rue Morgue” (1:15 a.m.), “Macabre” (2:56 a.m.), “The Corpse Vanishes” (4 a.m.) and “The Brain That Wouldn’t Die” (5:15 a.m.).

College football tonight includes South Florida at Temple (ESPN 7 p.m.), Pennsylvania at Yale (NBC Sports, 7 p.m.), Oregon at California (ESPN, 10:30 p.m.) and San Jose State at San Diego State (ESPN2, 10:30 p.m.).

Hockey has Nashville at Detroit (NHL, 7:30 p.m.).
