Saturday TV: ‘Birds of Prey’ Alight

It was called “Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn” (HBO, 8 p.m.) when it was released in movie theaters in February. Soon enough, its name was changed to “Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey” on marquees. It made more than $200 million and was one of the top 5 highest grossing films of the year. But it still didn’t make its break even costs (of an estimated $250 – #300 million). Cathy Yan’s superhero film makes its premium cable debut tonight, starring Margot Robie,  Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett (who stars in HBO’s anticipated “Lovecraft Country” tomorrow).

Sports get a prime time slot with Vegas vs. Chicago (NBC, 8 p.m.) in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Western Conference first round series. Other Stanley Cup games today have Boston vs. Carolina (NBC, noon), Colorado vs. Arizona (CNBC, 3 p.m.) and Tampa Bay vs. Columbus (NBC Sports, 7:30 p.m.).

“Earthlight” (BBC America, 8 p.m.) flies over Europe for your only chance to get a glimpse this summer.
