So as to not sully the more glamorous awards to be given out next Sunday, the Creative Arts Emmys Sunday went to the technical awards that make TV’s best shows so good looking.
Does it portend to what will win next week? Who knows. But for now, “Game of Thrones” seemed to lead with six awards, “Boardwalk Empire” getting three, “Downton Abbey” and “Homeland,” two each.
Discovery’s “Frozen Planet,” the PBS version of “Great Epectations” and the venerable “Saturday Nght Live” each picked up four Emmys; History Channel’s popular miniseries “Hatfields *& McCoys” picked up three and “Deadliest Catch” nabbed two.
There were a couple of acting categories, though, with Martha Plimpton, who has a full time job on “Raising Hope,” won for her guest star stint on “The Good Wife.”
Kathy Bates who had the unusual task of playing Charlie Sheen’s ghost on “Two and a Half Men” got a guest Emmy and Jeremy Davies won for his guest star appearance on the usually overlooked “Justified” on FX.
The Governors Award went to the “It Gets Better” project started in part by Dan Savage.
Jimmy Fallon won outstanding guest for hosting at his old gig, “Saturday Night Live.”
“Undercover Boss’ won outstanding reality program; “Penguins of Madagascar” won best animated series over “The Simpsons” and others
