Say what you will about the wisdom of the electorate, but the people who vote in singing show aren’t as understandable.
There are no exit polls for those who cast votes through phones, online and iTunes sales, so there were few explanations about the decision making on the first public votes of the season on “The Voice” and “The X Factor.”
Because of Tuesday’s (Presidential) eleciton, the two shows overlapped for the first time this week, both in the two hour performance shows Wednesday and in the one hour results shows on Thursday.
“The Voice” was the clear ratings winner when the two went head to head Tuesday, with 10.4 million watching “The Voice” and just over 7 million tuned into “The X Factor.”
On “The Voice,” viewers got to choose the two from each of the four judges’ teams. Then judges got to pick one to keep from the remaining three.
From Blake Shelton’s team, viewers kept rocker throwback Terry McDermott and  former band frontwoman Cassadee Pope. Of the remaining three, Shelton chose the teenater with the Mohawk hair, Michaela Paige, leaving Liz Davis and Julio Cesar Castillo to gome home.
On Adam Levine’s team, Bryan Keith and Amanda Brown were chosen by voters; Levine chose another singer with hair issues to stay, Melanie Martinez (whose haircoloring is split in color right down the middle). Joselyn Rivera and Loren Allred were cut.
Viewers selected the one male on Christina Aguilara’s team, Dez Duron, and the emotional singer Sylvia Yacoub. Aguilera chose Adriana Louise to continue with her. De’Borah and
Devyn DeLoera got walking papers.
Finally, viewers gave the most votes for Cee Lo Green’s team to the soul men, Trevin Hunte and Nicholas David, while Cee Lo picked Cody Belew to continue. Diego Val and MacKenzie Bourg were sent home.
That left a Top 12 for next week; something that “The X Factor” was beginning with. But in a ploy so similar to the first season it seemed like a gimmick, they announced gravely at the outset that a mistake had been commited and young Diamond WHite from Britney Spears’ band was allowed to come back. Just like last season, they are traumatizing young girls on “The X Factor.”
So they all sang on Wednesday, the votes came in, and for what the show as saying was the first time on any singing competition they showed how each act finished.
It was a pretty good insight on how things would be going. No. 1 was the sole counry singer, the big guy Tate Stevens. He quips that “Obviously people in America don’t get out a lot,” but he’s half right.
Behind him was Carly Rose SOneclar at No. 2, followed by heavily tattooed guy Vino Alan at third. Diamond White’s return was good for fourth place and Fifth Harmony, the new name for the female group assembled from solo singers, was at fifth place.
They were followed by the clunky surfer boy trio Emblem 3, Jennel Garcia, Paige THomas, Beatrice Miller and Arin Ray.
The two with the lowest votes, who had to sing to save themselves was CeCe Frey, the girl who used to paing cougar spots on her face; and the flamboyant James Brock, whose biggest inslut from Simon concerned his loud sportscoat.
For the sing-off he chose the over used “I Believe I Can Fly,” and Simon made a weight joke: I don’t believe you coudl fly..”
She sang “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” and a split between judges ensured that we would.
