Why wait until March for madness, with two Final Fours set in the season’s two major singing competition shows.
Two women went home on both “The Voice” Wednesday and “The X Factor” Thursday (and two judge/mentors were out of work on “The Voice”; one, and the first to have all her acts cut, on “The X Factor”).
It all set the stage for Final Four semi-finals next week on both shows, leading to the finales the following week.
On “The Voice,” Whitesnake came around to bite Amanda Brown, the woman with a strong soul voice that liked using it on rock songs, she was eliminated along with the contstant with the wispiest voice, Melanie Martinez, who had been the youngest singer on the show.
Both were from Adam Levine’s team, clearing out all his acts, just as Christina Aguilera’s acts were cut the previous week.
Now the only judges who can have a winner are Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green, who each have two acts in the hunt. Going to the finals are Shelton’s Cassadee Pope and Terry McDermott, and Green’s Nicholas David and Trevin Hunte.
On “The X Factor” Thursday, there was less surprise, as both CeCe Frey and Diamond White had each been in the Bottom two and had to sing for their lives in earlier episodes.
CeCe Frey, she of the leopard spots, was first to go with the least voice. That left Diamond White and the group Fifth Harmony to compete in a final showdown. The group sang Mariah Carey’s “Anytime You Need a Friend”; White sang Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance.” Three of the four judges voted to eliminate White except for Spears, who was her mentor.
Frey was Lovato’s final act to mentor; of the remaining singers, Simon Cowell surprisingly has two groups still in it, Fifth Harmony and the boy band Emblem 3. Spears has 13 year old Carly Rose Sonenclar; L.A. Reid has country singer Tate Stevens, who returned to No. 1 in votes for the third time after two weeks at No. 2 when Carly Rose took the top spot.
She moved to No. 2 this week, with Emblem3 finishing third.
