A fourth season finally begins for “Community” (NBC, 8 p.m.), with a battle to determine a place in a coveted History of Ice Cream class. Dean Pelton insists it be determined through a series of 32 challenges, “Hunger Games” – style.
The full cast returns (including Chevy Chase, for now). But the showrunner is new. Creator Dan Harmon is gone, replaced by the team of David Guarascio and Moses Port, who try to keep the tone similar, but may have their hands full.
Some sort of big thing is supposed to be happening on “Scandal” (ABC, 10 p.m.) that will change everything about the already preposterous White House tale.
Nick Kroll of the “Kroll Show” pairs with Matt Besser as the Pawnee drive-time radio zoo of Crazy Ira and the Douche, who bring on Leslie Knope on a new “Parks and Recreation” (NBC, 8:30 p.m.).
Who better than Kevin smith to guest judge the superhero quiz on “King of the Nerds” (TBS, 10 p.m.).
“Elementary” (CBS, 10 p.m.) did relatively poor in its post-Super Bowl slot on Sunday. It’s back safe in its regular time slot tonight.
Wayne Kramer, the founding guitarist for MC5 who cofounded Jail Guitar Doors USA after his own stint in prison is the subject on tonight’s “Lifecasters” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings).
The boys Hollywood round continues on “American Idol” (Fox, 9 p.m.). Next week: The girls.
“Glee” (Fox, 9 p.m.) emphasizes the diva. Which is always does. But even more.
More Oscar nominees from Universal Pictures play on Turner Classic Movies tonight, with “Anne of a Thousand Days” (8 p.m.), “The Sting” (10:45 p.m.), “The Deer Hunter” (1 a.m.) and “Smokey and the Bandit” (4:15 p.m.), which was nominated, for editing.
NBA action includes Lakers at Celtics (TNT, 8 p.m.) and Bulls at Nuggets (TNT, 10:30 p.m.).
In men’s college hoops, it’s Clemson at Virginia (ESPN2, 7 p.m.), Old Dominion at Drexel (NBC Sports, 7 p.m.), Belmont at Murray State (ESPNU, 8 p.m.), Washington at UCLA (ESPN, 9 p.m.) and Saint Mary’s at Santa Clara (ESPN2, 11 p.m.).
