rebel-wilson-mtv-movie-awards-2013“Pitch Perfect” star Rebel Wilson hosts The MTV Movie Awards (MTV, 9 p.m.), the raucous event that’s as much about introducing new summer movies as it is honoring films of last year. Will Ferrell and Emma Watson receive special awards, Selena Gomez performs. Some Oscar bait was also nominated here, including “Django Unchained” and “Silver Linings Playbook,” but “Ted” and “The Dark Knight Rises” got just as many nominations.

To run up to the ceremony, the network will mark the death of cast member Shain Gandee in a “mudding” accident” with a daylong marathon of “Buckwild” (MTV, 2 p.m.) followed by a tribute special at 8 p.m.

The sharp and scathing political comedy “Veep” (HBO, 9 p.m.) returns for a new season with Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character having to deal with a new White House adviser played by Gary Cole.

The underrated “Nurse Jackie” (Showtime, 9 p.m.) returns for what looks to be a strong season. She begins the season by getting a divorce while trying to spend as much time with her kids. And there’s a new doctor at the hospital.

Pity that “The Borgias” (Showtime, 10 p.m.) couldn’t have started its season a month earlier, in the height of Pope-picking season. The new season starts with the aftermath of the poisoning of Jeremy Irons, which must be remedied. It’s amazing to think how far the series has gotten from its more humble roots. And when did Gina McKee start to become a foe?

The short term season for “The 80s: The Decade that Made Us” (Nat Geo, 8 p.m.) plays a little like “I Love the 80s” without the pizazz or laughs. And while it has some interesting moments, the fact that it begins with the notion of the rise of Reaganism beginning with a 1980 win by the U.S. soccer team over Russia puts you off track from the start.

Also dealing with death this season is “I Love Jenni” (mun2, 9 p.m.). But Jenny Rivera and her family go on a vacation to cabo and it’s surprising how normal most everybody is.

“Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown” (CNN, 9 p.m.) gets a start on a news network.

Tough to say what’s going to happen on “Mad Men” (AMC, 9 p.m.). The coming attractions at the end of the episodes are well-known enigma.

Back on “The Amazing Race” (CBS, 8 p.m.) after a one week absence, treams travel to a snowy clime where they have to rapel down the side of a mountain.

In “Masterpiece Classic” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings), Mr. Selfridge brings the perfume counters front and center for the first time.

“Once Upon a Time: The Price of Magic” (ABC, 8 p.m.) is actually a show about the making of “Once Upon a Time.” Wouldn’t you rather see a real episode?
