The new “Monumental Mysteries” (Travel, 9 p.m.) throws together a bunch of crime stories that are loosely connected to monuments. They make it sound as if it will be Alamo and the Gateway Arch, which will be featured in future episodes. But the premiere begins with a forlorn gravestone in Rhode Island of a woman who some mistakenly thought was a vampire.
We do learn about the guy who first tried to sell the Brooklyn Bridge to others, but there is a lot of time given to a guy who probably frivolously identified himself as John Wilkes Booth before he died 1910 and the story that has been told so often about the Chicago World’s Fair mass murderer. Hosting is Don Wildmon of “Mysteries of the Museum” (Travel, 8 and 10 p.m.).
Season finales abound tonight with yet another regional competition on “Glee” (Fox, 9 p.m.) and something coming to a head on “Person of Interest” (CBS, 9 p.m.). Both will be back next season.
Graduation on a season finale of “Community” (NBC, 8 p.m.), especially after a shortened, troubled season, probably means a series finale for the show as well.
Signed up for a new season is “Two and a Half Men” (CBS, 8:30 p.m.), the remade comedy with Ashton Kutcher replacing Charlie Sheen and half man Angus Jones about to leave the show pretty much for good. In tonight’s 10th season finale, Hilary Duff and Marilu Henner guest star.
The series finale for “The Office” (NBC, 9 p.m.) will be next week. It’s already been announced to be a reality-style reunion show. Which means tonight’s one hour episode, with the tryouts for the position of Assistant to the Assistant to the Regional Manager, will be the last normal one in the office.
The final two on “American Idol” (Fox, 8 p.m.) will be unveiled in a show where Alicia Keys will perform, as will Lauren Alaina, whom you hardly remember as last year’s runner-up.
In case anybody is sad that “Splash” is over, here comes the sixth season premiere of “Wipeout” (ABC, 8 p.m.).
If New Jersey can have a Super Storm, why not “Grey’s Anatomy” (ABC, 9 p.m.)?
Gillian Anderson guest stars on a new episode of “Hannibal” (NBC, 10 p.m.); Natalie Dormer of “Game of Thrones” begins a stint on “Elementary” (CBS, 10 p.m.).
The amusing battling family in “Small Town Security” (AMC, 10 p.m.) returns for a second season, with it characters adjusting to the town’s reaction to their first season. It’s AMC’s best stab at reality programming to date.
On the one time “Nick Cannon’s Big Surprise” (E!, 10 p.m.) the TV host surprises his grandparents with a home makeover. You wonder if he would have done it without the TV special.
Turner Classic Movies celebrates families in the ’50s with “There’s Always Tomorrow” (8 p.m.), “A Summer Place” (9:30 p.m.), “Our Very Own” (11:45 p.m.), “A Hatful of Rain” (1:30 a.m.) and “Man on Fire” (3:30 a.m.)
Your Elvis movie of the night is “Fun in Acapulco” (Encore, 8 p.m.).
An early evening documentary speaks with “Carol Channing: Larger Than Life” (Showtime 2, 6:30 p.m.).
Hockey playoffs tonight include Ottawa at Montreal (CNBC, 7 p.m.), Islanders at Pittsburgh (NBC Sports Network, 7 p.m.) and Minnesota at Chicago (NBC Sports Network, 9:30 p.m.).
