Other than the name and the wheelchair, there’s nothing much about the new “Ironside” (NBC, 10 p.m.) to connect to the Raymond Burr series of years. Rather, it’s a cynical attempt to snare a few old viewers as they put on another dark urban cop saga starring Blair Underwood. Undeterred by handicap, his character is probably more physical than most cops, and with less humor. That the cast includes Pablo Schreiber, who stole scenes in “Orange is the New Black” isn’t quite enough to keep me watching.
It’s great Conan O’Brien got Aussie star Rebel Wilson to star in a sitcom. Right off the bat, though, “Super Fun Night” (ABC, 8:30 p.m.), about a trio of nerdy friends who decide to put themselves on the bar circuit for the first time. Seems like a plot for the “Birdesmaids” type movies she’s starred in before, but an ongoing TV series? It’ll work if they just give her time to do her humor at her own pace. The nightlife angle doesn’t quite fit with the still very popular lead-in, “Modern Family” (ABC, 9 p.m.), which has a cat death.
A turtle death is the problem, meanwhile, on “Duck Dynasty” (A&E, 10 p.m.).
Overall a very impressive series, “The Bridge” (FX, 10 p.m.) faltered a bit in its first season, but rebounded impressively last week. Which bodes well for tonight’s finale. (It’s been renewed for a second season).
This sounds interesting: Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe star in “A Young Doctor’s Notebook” (Ovation, 10 p.m.), a miniseries about a small town doctor during the Russian revolution, based on the stories by Mikhail Bulgakov.
An 11th season of “Top Chef” (Bravo, 10 p.m.) is set in a place that takes food seriously, New Orleans. It’s also a place that could use the business. The first thing the 19 contestants have to do is go out to the swamp to find alligator, frog or turtle to cook.
A celebrity chef played by Cybil Shepherd, meanwhile, shoots somebody on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (NBC, 9 p.m.). Jeffrey Tambor is her lawyer.
Time for the coaches to be paired with their categories at the end of “The X Factor” (Fox, 8 p.m.). This year the groupings are: Boys, girls, groups, and over 25.
Reality singing stars start to infringe on “Nashville” (ABC, 10 p.m.) as well.
Aziz Ansari takes a trip to Hong Kong on “The Getaway” (Esquire, 9 p.m.). Then athletes Simon Donato and paul Trebilcock enter the Molokai 2 Oahu Paddleboard World Championships in Hawaii on “Boundless” (Esquire, 10 p.m.).
Camryn Manheim returns to play the second part of the season opener of “Criminal Minds” (CBS, 9 p.m.).
Brick goes to middle school on “The Middle” (ABC, 8 p.m.).
“Arrow: Year One” (The CW, 8 p.m.) summarizes the first season of “Arrow” while looking forward to the second season, that begins next week.
The tongue falls out of the mouth again on the special “Miley: The Movement” (MTV, 10 p.m.).
“The Soup” (E!, 10 p.m.) expands its footprint by adding an spinoff, “The Soup Investigates” (E, 10:30 p.m.), getting to the bottom of things.
Glad to see Colton go on “Survivor” (CBS, 8 p.m.). He was too much of a jerk to play the game once, let alone twice.
The American League wild card game has Tampa Bay at Cleveland (TBS, 8 p.m.).
In hockey, it’s Buffalo at Detroit (NBC Sports, 8 p.m.).
Samantha Eggar is the star on Turner Classic Movies tonight, in the 1967 “Doctor Dolittle” (8 p.m.), “Walk, Don’t Run” (10:45 p.m.), “The Collector” (12:45 a.m.), “Dr. Crippen” (3 a.m.) and “Return from the Ashes” (5 a.m.).
