chicago-pd---promoFrom the people who gave you “Chicago Fire” comes the even worse “Chicago, P.D.” (NBC, 10 p.m.), which tries in its stumbling ways to create a rogue department whose actions aren’t much better than those of the criminals and drug dealers they go after. Jason Beghe is an almost amusing gravely voiced sergeant and aspiring TOm Sizemore. He leads a team of typically good looking cops. One of them, Jon Seda, seems to have walked from the set of “Treme” to his detective job here. It all makes you miss “The Shield.”

Brad Paisley, Sara Bareilles and One Republic perform on “The 40th Annual People’s Choice Awards” (CBS, 9 p.m.), live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Beth Behrs and Kat Dennings of “2 Broke Girls” host. You think the Golden Globes lack a certain authenticity. This one has “Sharknado” up for favorite TV movie and “Downton Abbey” nominated as favorite premium cable TV show, even though it’s on PBS.

MTV imagines it is blowing up its long running franchise by inviting exes to “The Real World.” But what happens on “Real World: Ex-Plosion” (MTV, 10 p.m.) seems like that kind of thing already happened on some VH1 show.

The new quiz show “Mind of a Man” (GSN, 8 p.m.) has a panel of women including Brooke Hogan and Kym Whitley trying to guess what men think about all day. Alonzo Bodden and Damien Dante Wayans help out. DeRay Davis is host.

The eighth season of “Psych” (USA, 9 p.m.) starts in London at a Harry Potter convention.

You could see this guest star coming from the first episodes of “American Horror Story: Coven” (FX, 10 p.m.): Stevie Nicks.

The new “Spice of Life with Bal Arneson” (Cooking, 9 p.m.) involves cooking with spices but also things like bungee jumping.

The first of a three part series exploring an earlier boat journey across the Southern Ocean is recounted in “Chasing Shackelton” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings).

“60 Minutes Sports” (Showtime, 10 p.m.) reports on hopeful skiers in the Winter Olympics.

Phil ends up in jail on a new “Modern Family” (ABC, 9 p.m.). It plays between two episodes of “Super Fun Night” (ABC, 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.).

Pablo Schreiber returns to “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (NBC, 9 p.m.) as Mariska Hargitay relives the details of his attack.

 

Elvis Presley’s birthday is celebrated with another string of his movies, this time some of the oddest ones, from “Stay Away, Joe” (TCM, 6 a.m.) and “Live a Little, Love a Little” (TCM, 7:45 a.m.) to “Double Trouble” (TCM, 9:15 a.m.), “Spinout” (TCM, 11 a.m.), “Girl Happy” (TCM, 2:30 p.m.), “Kissin’ Cousins” (TCM, 4:15 p.m.) and “It Happened at the World’s Fair” (TCM, 6 p.m.).
