With the transmitter on the fritz, tonight’s show began by noting Marvin Gaye’s birthday and the announcement of David Letterman’s retirement, then moved to a selection from the 25 songs added to the National Recording Registry, a handful of baseball songs on opening week.
And then there was a set from people who are in town for shows: Sarah Borges & the Broken Records, Cher, Iris DeMent, Kraftwerk and a whole lot of Dean Wareham, as reflected in three of his groups, Galaxie 500, Luna and Dean & Britta.
