Conceptually, the new “Girl Meets World” (Disney, 9:45 p.m.) fills a nostalgic longing. Fred Savage who played the kid on “Boy Meets World” has married Danielle Fishel’s Topanga and they have their own precocious youngster of their own tweens, who of course are the central figures of yet another generic teen sitcom, all but choked by unconvincing canned laughs to the lamest of lines, some of which couldn’t possibly be considered punchlines.
It begins alongside a new TV movie, “Zapped” (Disney, 8 p.m.) about a teenage girl who can control boys with a dog training app on her phone. It’s based on a young adult novel.
Vittorio Grigolo is the poet and Kristine Opolais is the seamstress in Franco Zeffirelli’s lavish production of Puccini’s “La Boheme” on “Great Performances at the Met” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings). Susanna Philips and Massimo Cavalletti round out the cast; Stefano Ranzani conducts.
A great performance from a delightful film, Cate Blanchett stars in Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine” (Starz, 9 p.m.), making its premium cable premiere.
In one of the few new things on network TV, Meredith Vieira reports on Paolo Macchiarini’s style of regenerative medicine on “Dateline” (NBC, 8 p.m.).
Battles and scheming continues on “Crossbones” (NBC, 10 p.m.).
Unseen episodes of “Rake” (Fox, 9 p.m.) are now being burned off.
An organic restaurant in Ojai, Calif., gets a backyard watering hole on “The Pool Masters” (Animal Planet, 9 p.m.).
Jamie Chung and Debby Ryan turn themselves into “The Fashion Police” (E!. 9 p.m.).
“Siberian Cut: Frozen Ground” (Discovery, 9 p.m.) is not about a hairdresser in the Arctic Circle.
In “Animals Gone Wild” (Nat Geo Wild, 9 p.m.), just as you would expect, all the critters are naked.
Didn’t we just say goodbye to her? Nonetheless, Barbara Walters is back, interviewing Peter Rodger, father of the lunatic killer in last month’s senseless Santa Barbara spree that killed six on “20/20” (ABC, 10 p.m.).
Guests on a new “Real Time with Bill Maher” (HBO, 10 p.m.) include Bobby Ghosh, Joy Reid, Max Brooks, Martin Glaser and Andy Dean. These may be all random audience members for all I know.
The Friday night salute to pirates on Turner Classic Movies concludes with “Treasure Island” (8 p.m.), “The Boy and the Pirates” (10 p.m.), “Captain Kidd” (11:30 p.m.)., “Blackbeard the Pirate” (1 a.m.), “Raiders of the Seven Seas” (2:45 a.m.) and “Last of the Buccaneers” (4:30 a.m.).
No World Cup today. But in baseball, there is Red Sox at Yankees (MLB, 7 p.m.).
After yesterday’s NBA draft, here’s the NHL Draft (NBC Sports, 7 p.m.).
And early round play continues at Wimbeldon (ESPN, 7 a.m.).
