Seems to be a lot of religion informing new network series. On “The Messengers” (The CW, 9 p.m.) for example, something weird crashes in New Mexico whose shock wave change the lives of a handful of people including a a scientist, a mom, a student, a federal agent and a televangelist. Then they all have to deal with a strange man. Is it religious? Well not as much as “A.D.” But it seems like the televangelist, played by Jon Fletcher, will try to make the most of this.
It’s accompanied by yet another competitive reality show that does not involve cooks, designers, singers, dancers, makeup specialists or tattoo artists. Instead, it is “Cedric’s Barber Battle” (The CW, 8 p.m.), run by Cedric the Entertainer, who has played a role in more than one “Barber Shop” movies. Rounding out the hour, a third season for the renewed “Whose Line Is It Anyway” (The CW, 8:30 p.m.).
For her latest standup special, Tig Notaro decided to go to some nontraditional stages, such as: wherever her fans wanted her to be. So she plays some house parties, a trailer and at least one geodesic dome for “Knock Knock, It’s Tig Notaro” (Showtime, 9 p.m.).
Elsewhere, Justin Bieber’s favorite comic and stars in the sitcom “Undatable.” Now he has a new standup special online, “Chris D’Elia: Incorribible” (Netflix, streaming).
“The Amazing Race” (CBS, 8 p.m.) reaches Namibia.
On “Angry Planet” (Pivot, 10 p.m.), bushfires erupt in Australia.
Candy flavored face wipes will be welcomed by children, two moms figure, on a new “Shark Tank” (ABC, 9 p.m.).
“Bitten” (Syfy, 8 p.m.), which bills itself as the only show featuring a female werewolf, returns for its seasons season, with everybody looking for Malcolm.
“Mysteries at the Museum” (Travel, 9 p.m.) travels to Washington’s Folger Shakespeare Library.
Judith Miller, Jon Meacham, Clay Aiken, Michelle Caruso-Cabrera and Neera Tanden are guests on a new “Real Time with Bill Maher” (HBO, 10 p.m.).
The work of visual effects artist A. Arnold Gillespie, featured all month Fridays on Turner Classic Movies, continues with “Green Dolphin Street” (8 p.m.), “Royal Wedding” (10:30 p.m.), “Scaramouche” (12:15 a.m.) and “The Wreck of the Mary Deare” (2:30 a.m.).
Stanley Cup playoff games include Islanders at Washington (NBC Sports, 7 p.m.), Ottawa at Montreal (CNBC, 7 p.m.), Chicago at Nashville (NBC Sports, 9:30 p.m.) and Calgary at Vancouver (CNBC, 10 p.m.).
