After another 50th anniversary salute to John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme,” it was a whole lot of Percy Sledge, starting with the one song the obits all mentioned when he died this week at 73, “When a Man Loves a Women” and going on from there.
Included a bit of Sufjan Stevens on the occasion of his current tour, and some early, live Neil Young on the occasion of Blitzen Trapper coming to town, covering his “Harvest” album. Played some Rosanne Cash following her show in Bethesda tonight; and James McMurtry, who’s coming to town Monday. Heard some Silos on the occasion of their 30th anniversary, and played some Mott the Hoople and Hank Williams covers amid some rockabilly and garage.
