Crawling into the brains of the dead to solve crimes is a ploy used in more than one current TV show aimed at younger audiences. But while “iZombie” (The CW, 9 p.m.) does so with the undead, the character on “Stitchers” (ABC Family, 9 p.m.), premiering tonight, does it through brainy technology. So pHD candidate Kristen Clark, who has a malady that makes it tough for her to judge time passage, finds herself into virtual scenes whose very walls shimmer.
Lanky Aussie former model Emma Ista cuts a striking figure as the central character, making the show more compelling than it otherwise would have been. The supporting cast generally lets the production down.
It’s accompanied by the sixth season start for “Pretty Little Liars” (ABC Family, 8 p.m.). Not only should they have solved their mystery by now, the teens should all be in their 20s by now.
No need to shoot new footage for a refreshed season of the popular old Animal Planet series about dramatic ground critters. Just hire a new British narrator in Rupert Graves, add a story borrowed from “Downton Abbey” and recut it a bit to make “Meerkat Manor: The Monarchy Begins” (Discovery Family Channel, 8 p.m.) — same creatures, different story.
They’re running out of locales to name the “Real Housewives.” And since the gussied-up women in the newest Bravo show are also in New York — technically, Long Island — its latest show is called “Secrets and Wives” (Bravo, 10 p.m.).
Returning shows tonight include “Royal Pains” (USA, 10 p.m.), back for its 10th season, and the ever-annoying “Chrisley Knows Best” (USA, 9 p.m.), back for its third.
The changing-places “Trip Flip” (Travel 9 p.m.) puts two people in the Michigan winter and two others in Louisiana swamps as the fourth season begins.
Two other Flip related shows are on tonight, the stalwart “Flip or Flop” (HGTV, 9 p.m.), with one new episode among a night of repeats, and the new “Junk Food Flip” (Cooking, 9 p.m.) in which healthier versions of guilty pleasures are concocted by restaurants; if customers prefer them, there is a cash prize involved.
Online, “Community” (Yahoo Screen, streaming) ends its season.
The 400-pound participants in “Extreme Weight Loss” (ABC, 9 p.m.) aren’t the only bloated thing about the show — it’s regularly two hours long.
Also two hours: More endless auditions on “America’s Got Talent” (NBC, 8 p.m.), a process that severely undercuts the title’s promise.
Amy gets a mail-order husband on a new “Inside Amy Schumer” (Comedy Central, 10:30 p.m.).
Four movies directed by actor Dick Powell are on Turner Classic Movies tonight with “The Hunters” (8 p.m.), “The Enemy Below” (10 p.m.), “Split Second” (11:45 p.m.) and “You Can’t Run Away From It” (1:30 a.m.).
Baseball includes Cubs at Miami (MLB, 7 p.m.) and Mets at San Diego (MLB, 10 p.m.).
Quarterfinals begin at the French Open (Tennis Channel, 8 a.m.; ESPN2, 1 p.m.).
