A quiz show with a dumb name “Boom!” (Fox, 8 p.m.) doesn’t just give prizes, it penalizes people with wrong answers in the manner of ejector seats like MTV’s old “Remote Control” or slime like that from any number of Nickelodeon shows like “Double Dare.”
Tom Papa hosts the show that had its start on Israeli TV as a bomb-diffusing competition, which seems like poor taste.
A show like “Under the Dome” (CBS, 9 p.m.) was never meant to go past a single season. But amid a lot of fare like the above show, it became a relative summer hit. There followed a second season and some wondering whether they’d ever get from out under the dome. The third season starts tonight with Marg Helgenberger and Eriq La Salle joining in. But at two hours, it’s already wearing out its welcome.
Also back tonight “Rookie Blue” (ABC, 10 p.m.), the flimsy Canadian import that’s already in its sixth season. In the debut, Missy Peregrym gets attacked at home.
On cable, “Graceland” (USA, 10 p.m.) is back for season three.
Six more houseguests join the eight introduced Wednesday on “Big Brother” (CBS, 8 p.m.). Then the first of nightly three hour “Big Brother After Dark” (Pop, midnight) begins. Summer is really here.
The fairly good comedy “The Comedians” (FX, 10 p.m.) ends its first season with two episodes.
Earlier this week when you weren’t looking, “Hannibal” (NBC, 10 p.m.) was canceled. But a new episode is on tonight.
Morgan Spurlock has his own “Cops” style show now called “American Takedown” (A&E, 10 p.m.) where he tags along on tactical law enforcement missions.
A very unusual group of films tonight on Turner Classic Movies — featuring stars who died before the films were released. That includes Spencer Tracy in “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” (8 p.m.), Natalie Wood in “Brainstorm” (10 p.m.) and Bruce Lee in “Enter the Dragon” (midnight). Others they could have added: Bela Lugosi in “Plan Nine from Outer Space,” or David Niven in “Curse of the Pink Panther.”
Sports’ biggest event tonight isn’t a game at all. It’s the NBA Draft (ESPN, 7 p.m.).
Baseball includes Mets at Milwaukee (MLB, 2 p.m.) and Yankees at Houston (MLB, 8 p.m.).
