Tyra Banks is back all over. In addition to a 22nd (!) cycle for her “America’s Next Top Model” (The CW, 8 p.m.) starting tonight, there is also a syndicated fall daytime show called “FABLife.”
In the the chatty, seemingly-overcaffinated show from ABC Studios, she is listed as “Chief Lifestylist” among a cast of fellow lifestylists that includes Joe Zee, Chrissy Teigen, Lauren Makk and Rebecca Mayer.
Banks is known for creating her own words — flawsome, Ty-Over, Boom Boom Wow, Werk the Smirk, H2T, Booty touch and smize among them, just to mention a few.
But at the TV Critics Association summer press tour Tuesday, I asked her: Do you really need “lifestylist” as a new word?
“You do need that word,” she said, with a bit of fierceness. “Because when you’re trying to change the world, you need things to immediately shorten what the new thing is.”
She was talking a mile a minute, because that’s what Tyra does. “If we’re saying, ‘Oh, we’re hosts that are expert in certain fields in the lifestyle space,’ who the hell’s going to remember that? But if you say lifestylists, you get it.
“These aren’t hosts that are just kind of hired, that have personalities, and could change one out for the other,” she said, gesturing to her colleagues. “They are experts and they are going to style your life. So flop it; lifestylist, yeah!”
And I just smized.
