GreenlightIt’s been a decade, but “Project Greenlight” (HBO, 10 p.m.) returns for another fascinating season of how to traverse the role of first time filmmaker. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon may have been influenced by the success of “The Chair,” which told a similar story last year on Starz, except two filmmakers made a movie from the same script.

On this revival, a number of promising filmmakers are invited as finalists only to have one chosen by the end of the premiere episode. The lesson learned is that the most artistic choice may also be the most challenging for the producers (and network) who have to bank on the work.

It’s accompanied by the somewhat surprising return of “Doll & Em” (HBO, 10:30 p.m.), a comedy that seemed so small in scope in its first season that it almost seemed like a personal statement rather than something made public. Instead, the fictionalized lives of real life actress Emily Mortimer and her best friend Dolly Wells (now a cast member on “Blunt Talk”) takes a leap in that it really is a charming little comedy about eccentric friends, who this time are so enamored with themselves they make a Broadway play about it. A number of recognizable faces help out.

Here’s your first NFL Sunday of the season, with Giants at Dallas (NBC, 8:30 p.m.) in the big primetime slot. Earlier it’s Miami at Washington (CBS, 1 p.m.), New Orleans at Arizona (Fox, 4 p.m.) and Baltimore at Denver (CBS, 4:25 p.m.).

The seemingly outdated meat show of “Miss America” (ABC, 9 p.m.) seemed to be fading out to the ends of cable in recent years, only to be back now in its 95th year on Atlantic City and prime time broadcast TV. Keepin’ it smarmy, Chris Harrison hosts with Brooke Burke-Charvet (a former contestant on his “Bachelor”). Judges include Danica McKeller, Taya Kyle, Brett Eldredge, Kevin O’Leary, Amy Purdy, Zendaya and a woman who was once crowned and then stripped of the title, Vanessa Williams. Nick Jonas is in charge of the music, but I don’t know what that means.

In the second of three parts of “Arthur & George,” on “Masterpiece” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings), regarding Sherlock Holmes author Arthur Conan Doyle, they continue to try to crack the case. It’s followed by a repeat of one of the best of the network’s modernized “Sherlock” series at 9, when Watson gets married.

Violate and Ash consider dating other people on “Vicious” (PBS, 10:30 p.m., check local listings).

Kris Jenner finally meets with Cait on “I Am Cait” (E!, 8 p.m.).

A third season starts on “Live and Maddie” (Disney, 8 p.m.), with Diggie about to go to Australia.

Nominations for eviction are revealed to the increasingly smaller group of houseguests on “Big Brother” (CBS, 8:30 p.m.), which gets a post-football approximate time.

Riots break out on “Fear the Walking Dead” (AMC, 9 p.m.).

Bridget gets into a fight on “Ray Donovan” (Showtime, 9 p.m.).

Even a trip to the Bahamas can’t keep people from fighting on “Married to Medicine” (Bravo, 9 p.m.).

On the season premiere of “Sister Wives” (TLC, 9 p.m.) Kody gets divorced from one of them. So he’s got spares.

The final four race to Texas on “The Great Food Truck Race” (Food, 9 p.m.).

David Alan Grier judges breakfast tacos on “Cutthroat Kitchen” (Food, 10 p.m.).

Masters and Johnson are still arguing on “Masters of Sex” (Showtime, 10 p.m.).

Justine gets in trouble with the mayor on “The Strain” (FX, 10 p.m.).

“House of DVG” (E!, 9 p.m.), about Diane von Furstenberg’s fashion house, has its season premiere.

Baseball includes Toronto at Yankees (TBS, 1 p.m.) and Kansas City at Baltimore (ESPN, 8 p.m.).

WNBA action includes New York at Indiana (NBA, 5 p.m.) and San Antonio at Seattle (NBA, 9 p.m.).

The U.S. Open (ESPN, 4 p.m.) ends with the men’s final.

“Gaslight” (TCM, 8 p.m.) is paired with “Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte” (TCM, 10 p.m.).
