There’s at least one splendid joke in an interview I did with Jonathan Katz, star of TV’s animated “Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist,” for The Washington Post that was published today.
There was another standout, too, that was determined not to work for readers of a Sunday family newspaper, but is included here in part to test your own tolerance for dark humor.
It came at a part of the conversations when we were talking about Tig Notaro, who will appear with Katz (as well as Jim Gaffigan and Janeane Garofolo) this week at the Bentzen Ball in D.C. in his “Dr. Katz Live” show.
In Notaro’s documentary, “Knock Knock, It’s Tig Notaro,” she travels around the country with a Canadian comedian, Jon Dore, playing in people’s living rooms.
Katz was extolling the virtues of Dore. “I like the two of them together, they’re very playful together,” Katz said. “I love dark comedy, and he does one of darkest jokes I’ve ever heard, which I will share with you.
“He was talking to his nephew, who was maybe 4 or 5 years old, and was aware of Barack Obama, and he said, ‘Uncle Jonny, do you think there will ever be a white president in my lifetime?’ And he said, ‘Well, first of all, you have leukemia..’ ”
