While it seems natural that shows in the “NCIS” or “Chicago P.D.” franchises would freely stage crossover episodes, it’s a bit more odd that a long-running, relatively fact-based show like “Bones” (Fox, 8 p.m.) would have a crossover “event” with the fantasy of the adjoining “Sleepy Hollow” (Fox, 9 p.m.).
But this being the witching season, they try it tonight, with “Sleepy Hollow” FBI agent Abbie Mills and Ichabod Crane visiting the “Bones” team in Washington to claim a headless body they are investigating. Then Brennan and Booth of “Bones” join those two in investigating the identity of the corpse and tying it to a current victim.
“We set out to create a thrilling, two-hour ride, in which each show would be true to itself,” the producers said in a statement. “What has surprised and gratified us most about merging these two very different worlds is that the foursome of characters meshed in such an easy and natural way.”
It’s special for Halloween, of course, but they deal with vampires every week on “The Vampire Diaries” (The CW, 8 p.m.) and “The Originals” (The CW, 9 p.m.).
Halloween is the setting of a serial killer caper on “The Player” (NBC, 10 p.m.), too.
But the most Halloween thing on tonight, of course, is a replay of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” (ABC, 8 p.m.).
Thursday Night Football has Miami at New England (CBS, 8:25 p.m.).
Remaining designers on “Project Runway” (Lifetime, 9 p.m.) head home to work on their collections and await a visit from Tim Gunn as the process of a finale begins.
“Nathan for You” (Comedy Central, 10 p.m) has a plan for getting people to work for a moving company without pay.
A new client for Annalise on “How to Get Away with Murder” (ABC, 10 p.m.) is a transgender professor accused of killing her husband.
A team of assassins are after Keen on “The Blacklist” (NBC, 9 p.m.).
At a time when you can watch the revived “From Dusk to Dawn” on El Rey network on Tuesdays, you can also see the original 1996 movie “From Dusk till Dawn” (BBC America, 8 and 10 p.m.) on which it is based.
A number of recent films directed by women closes out a month showcasing female filmmakers on Turner Classic Movies. It includes Sarah Polley’s “Away from Her” (8 p.m.), Nicole Nolofcener’s “Walking & Talking” (10 p.m.), Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker” (11:45 p.m.), Sofia Coppola’s “The Virgin Suicides” (2 a.m.) and Julie Taymor’s “Frida” (3:45 a.m.).
College football tonight includes North Carolina at Pittsburgh (ESPN, 7 p.m.), West Virginia at TCU (Fox Sports 1, 7:30 p.m.), Western Michigan at Eastern Michigan (CBS Sports Network, 7:30 p.m.), Texas State at Georgia Southern (ESPNU, 7:30 p.m.) and Oregon at Arizona State (ESPN, 10:30 p.m.).
NBA action includes Atlanta at New York (TNT, 8 p.m.) and Dallas at Clippers (TNT, 10:30 p.m.).
