Hey, it’s Aretha Franklin’s 74th birthday! So we saluted her. Also: following a short Easter set, a look back at this week’s concert by The Who, including some of the lesser known songs they performed to some covers of their better-known ones.
A cover by David Bowie of the Who’s “Pictures of Lily” led to a sampling of his final album “Blackstar.” The death of Phife Dawg this week at 45 led to a review of some of his work with A Tribe Called Quest. I played a few songs that were added to the Library of Congress National Registry of Recordings, from Merle Haggard to John Coltrane. And ended with some new things from Margo Price, Grant-Lee Phillips and Bob Mould.
