Discovery Network takes a break from “Naked and Afraid” and “Gold Rush” for a moment to look at an underreported aspect of oceanic pollution: noise. Noise generated by shipping boats, cruise ships, sonar communications, military activity and energy exploration are driving undersea life crazy if not to other habitats, according to “The Sonic Sea” (Discovery, 9 p.m.). The noise may have been responsible for the otherwise unexplained beaching of whales.
Actress Rachel McAdams narrates the documentary that features interviews with a number of scientists and activists, among them, Sting in a work that is the first of a series of environmental documentaries the network has planned under the title Discovery Impact.
An ocean of season finales floods tonight. In them, it’s Amelia’s wedding day on “Grey’s Anatomy” (ABC, 8 p.m.), an epic battle on “The 100” (The CW, 9 p.m.) and a betrayal on “The Blacklist” (NBC, 9 p.m.).
Two episodes will end the short first season for “The Catch” (ABC, 9 p.m.), which will be back next season.
It’s also the first season finale of “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” (The CW, 8 p.m.) which will be seen as a harbinger of the time travel shows that will be piling up in the fall.
