Few documentaries have earned the early acclaim as the series “O.J.: Made in America” (ABC, 9 p.m.). Though one may rightly think there’s been enough already about O.J. Simpson and his murder trial, this one, originally made for ESPN’s “30 for 30” series and a hit at Sundance, begins the story much earlier, at what made Simpson a national hero amid racial tension in Los Angeles, and ends much later with the jailing of Simpson for a much smaller crime. Part one of Ezra Edelman’s epic gets a broadcast network prime time premiere; the remaining four episodes run Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and next Saturday on ESPN.
Confusingly, “The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime” (FX, 2 p.m.) also reruns its entire 10 episode season through midnight. This is the one with actors.
As the transcontinental railroad gets closer to completion, “Hell on Wheels” (AMC, 9 p.m.) returns to finish its fifth and final season with the first of seven final episodes.
Robert Redford produces the eight-part “The American West” (AMC, 10 p.m.), looking at the opening of the West in the late 19th century and some of its biggest personalities. The stories of Billy the Kid, Jesse James, Wyatt Earp, Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull are narrated by James Caan, Burt Reynolds, Tom Selleck, Kiefer Sutherland, Ed Harris and Mark Harmon.
Jason Clarke and Jake Gyllenhaal star in “Everest” (HBO, 8 p.m.) last year’s drama about a deadly 1996 outing on the mountain that makes its premium cable premiere. Josh Brolin, Emily Watson, Kiera Knightly and Robin Wright also appear in the drama about the tragedy previously told in Jon Krakauer’s book “Into Thin Ice.”
On the made for TV “Stop the Wedding” (Hallmark, 9 p.m.), Rachel Boston plays a woman who disapproves of her widowed aunt’s upcoming wedding to a movie star. Alan Thicke, Lini Evans and Niall Matter also star.
Another original TV movie, “Killing Mommy” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.) is about the reaction of twin sisters, both played by soap opera star Yvonne Zima, to their mother’s plans to remarry and sell the family estate. It is, of course, followed by the 2014 movie, “Killing Daddy” (Lifetime, 10 p.m.).
The death of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham in 2014 is the subject of a two hour “48 Hours” (CBS, 9 p.m.).
Need more celebrity-driven infotainment? There’s a new prime time network show, “The People’s List” (ABC, 8 p.m.) from People magazine, hosted by Jerry O’Connell and SuChin Pak.
“The Vet Life” (Animal Planet, 10 p.m.) is about veterinarians.
“My Floating Home” (FYI, 10:30 p.m.) is about houseboats, not flood insurance.
“Ghost Adventures” (Travel, 9 p.m.) go to Gettysburg and Colorado.
You could spend four hours watching “American Ninja Warrior” (NBC, 8 p.m.; Esquire, 10 p.m.).
This week’s episode of “Maya & Marty” (NBC, 10 p.m.) with Steve Martin and Tina Fey, gets another run.
Infidelity turns to murder on “Scorned: Love Kills” (Investigation Discovery, 10 p.m.).
An overaggressive cat is treated on “My Cat from Hell” (Animal Planet, 8 p.m.), by which to say: No treats at all!
Three films set at World’s Fairs are on Turner Classic Movies with Judy Garland in “Meet Me in St. Louis” (8 p.m.). Elvis Presley in “It Happened at the World’s Fair” (10 p.m.) and Jean Simmons in “So Long at the Fair” (midnight). Later comes “Some Call It Loving” (2 a.m.) and “Lolita” (3:45 a.m.).
Primetime baseball today includes Detroit at Yankees (Fox, 7 p.m.). Also tonight is Cleveland at Angels (Fox Sports 1, 10 p.m.).
Horse racing’s Belmont Stakes (NBC, 6:30 p.m.) is run in New York.
In soccer’s Copa America, it’s United States vs. Paraguay (Fox Sports 1, 7 p.m.) and Costa Rica vs. Colombia (Fox Sports 2, 9:30 p.m.).
In the European championship, it’s Albania vs. Switzerland (ESPN, 9 p.m.), Slovakia vs. Wales (ESPN, noon) and England vs. Russia (ESPN, 3 p.m.).
Third round play in the Women’s PGA Championship (NBC, 2 p.m.) is played in Harrison, N.Y.
The Avett Brothers play a rerun of “Austin City Limits” (PBS, 11 p.m., check local listings).
