Not the most star-studded night at the Republican National Convention (MSNBC, Fox News, 7 p.m.; PBS, 8 p.m.; CNN, 9 p.m.; ABC, NBC, CBS, 10 p.m.).
The biggest names include sleep-inducing Dr. Ben Carson, Donald Trump Jr., previously seen as “Celebrity Apprentice” adviser, and just one other TV star, Kimberlin Brown, right, who was, like Antonio Sabato Jr., on both “The Young and the Restless” and the “Bold and the Beautiful.” She is currently host of “Dramatic Design” on something called the Design Network, so there’s that.
Also tonight: the general manager of the Trump Winery will on hand to sell a few cases; Tiffany Trump, described as “a fashion model, singer and influential presence on social media” will speak, too, as will, oh yes, Gov. Chris Christie, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, golfer Natalie Gulbis, Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchison, a guy from the NRA and the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
The theme, from the guy who went bankrupt many times, is “Make America Work Again” (though there is some indication they can’t even make a convention work).
Was hoping more from a Jon Stewart appearance on “The Late Show with Steven Colbert” (CBS, 11:35 p.m.) Monday than his cameo as bearded cabin-dweller. But the first of the week’s live shows did mark the first return of the host’s much-missed “The Colbert Report” character. Tonight is live again, and he has Keegan-Michael Key, Kathryn Hahn and Jenny Lewis.
Tonight is also the first of the week’s episodes of “The Daily Show” (Comedy Central, 11 p.m.) from Cleveland.
Clint Eastwood will not be talking to an empty chair, which was a celebrity highlight from the last GOP Convention. But he will be starring in a number of spaghetti westerns tonight on Turner Classic Movies with “A Fistful of Dollars” (8 p.m.), “For a Few Dollars More” (9:45 p.m.), “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” (noon), “Hang ‘Em High” (3 a.m.).
Earlier Westerns in the TCM’s roundup include “Hate for Hate” (6:15 a.m.), “Guns for San Sebastian” (8 a.m.), “The Stranger Returns” (10 a.m.), “The Five Man Army” (2 p.m.), “A Bullet for Sandoval” (4 p.m.) and “Red Sun” (6 p.m.).
“Containment” (The CW, 9 p.m.) ends its run, but not without a final fight out of the quarantine.
George Lopez is guest judge on a two hour “America’s Got Talent” (NBC, 8 p.m.).
Tommy unravels a little on “Feed the Beast” (AMC, 10 p.m.)
The dating show few are watching is reaching its own conclusion with one of the final arrivals on “Coupled” (Fox, 9 p.m.).
Caraquet is not the refuge they hoped on “Zoo” (CBS, 9 p.m.).
Josh hits the motherlode on “Deadliest Catch” (Discovery, 9 p.m.).
Contestants on “Chopped Junior” (Food, 8 p.m.) find it’s tough to cook boar. It’s all about grilling on the grown up “Chopped” (Food, 10 p.m.).
Aria and Emily discover a secret apartment on “Pretty Little Liars” (Freeform, 8 p.m.).
Nastasya goes to Olympic trials on “Gold Medal Families” (Lifetime, 10 p.m.).
Craig and Deran throw a party on “Animal Kingdom” (TNT, 9 p.m.)
Hannah’s looking for a big tip on “Below Deck Mediterranean” (Bravo, 9 p.m.).
The place is Okinawa, the dish is poisonous pufferfish on “Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmer” (Travel, 9 p.m.).
It’s more of a blowfish on the lips of somebody on “Botched” (E!, 9 p.m.).
Somebody sneaks into the camp during a masquerade ball on “Dead of Summer” (Freeform, 9 p.m.).
Matt may have to undergo risky spinal surgery on “Little People, Big World” (TLC, 9 p.m.).
Pauly D and Aubrey O’Day are kind of made for each other on “Famously Single” (E!, 10 p.m.).
The carnival ain’t so much fun on “Scream: The TV Series” (MTV, 10 p.m.).
The island’s first trial is held on “Wrecked” (TBS, 10 p.m.).
In one of the least active sports days of the year, baseball has Mets at Cubs (ESPN, 7 p.m.) and White Sox at Seattle (MLB, 10 p.m.).
In WNBA action, it’s Los Angeles at Indiana (ESPN2, 9 p.m.). And that’s it.
