museumA lot of today’s big TV events are outdoor daytime events. Chief among them is the opening ceremony for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture (CSPAN, 10 a.m.; BET, 10:30 a.m.) opens with a ceremony that includes President Obama and former President Bush. Here’s a story I wrote for Smithsonian Magazine about the Musical Crossroads exhibit of the new museum.

In New York, the Fifth Annual Global Citizen Festival (MSNBC, 3 p.m.) features performances from Usher, Rihanna, Demi Lovato, Kendrick Lamar and Metallica. Tamron Hall and Willie Geist host.

Nanette Burstein’s “Gringo: The Dangerous Life of John AcAfee” (Showtime, 9 p.m.) looks at the computer antivirus software mogul who skipped the country for a compound in Belize, possibly to get away from allegations he murdered a neighbor.

The 29th season of “48 Hours” (CBS, 10 p.m.) looks into the murder this year of a 13-year-old in Virginia who was killed after meeting a stranger online.

You’d never know it was the first week of the fall TV season on broadcast networks, with most of them gone to college football, with Oklahoma State at Baylor (Fox, 7:30 p.m.) and Stanford at UCLA (ABC, 8 p.m.).

Danny Boyle’s bio film of “Steve Jobs” (HBO, 8 pm.) starring Michael Fassbinder, with a screenplay by Asron Sorkin, makes its premium cable debut.

“Deepwater Horizon: Disaster in the Gulf” (Discovery, 10 p.m.) looks at the largest offshore oil spill in U.S. history.

A couple who buy a house in the country to get away from it all find that there’s some tragic history in their “House of Darkness” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.)

Cleo Stiller hosts the new “Sex. Right. Now: Burning Questions” (Fusion, 10 p.m.). As long as it’s the questions that are burning. Alternate joke: First question is about having too man periods in the title.

Season three starts for the animated “Star Wars Rebels” (Disney XD, 8:30 p.m.).

This week’s season premiere of “The Voice” (NBC, 8 p.m.) gets a replay.

“Ghost Adventures” (Travel, 9 p.m.) investigates a Phoenix Gold Mine in Idaho Springs, Colo.

An inmate makes demands of officers from behind bars on “Jail: Big Texas” (Spike TV, 9 p.m.).

“Dr. Dee: Alaska Vet” (Animal, 8 p.m.) promotes doggie blood donations.

Kids switch lockers on “School of Rock” (Nickelodeon, 9 p.m.).

“Iyania: Fix My Life” (OWN, 9 p.m.) is still working on dissing the myth about angry black women.

A modern day Bonnie and Clyde murders cabbies on “Snapped: Killer Couples” (Oxygen, 9 p.m.).

“Forbidden History” (Science, 9 p.m.) is looking for no less than the Holy Grail.

Eddie Money, Cheryl Ladd, Ione Skye and the Old Spice Guy are considered hasbeens on “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” (OWN, 10 p.m.).

A Van Heflin triple play features “Shake” (8 p.m.), “Patterns” (10:15 p.m.) and “The Feminine Touch” (midnight). Later comes a pair of locomotive horror films, “Night Train to Terror” (TCM,  2 a.m.) and “Horror Express” (TCM, 3:45 a.m.).

College football begins at noon with games Georgia at Mississippi (ESPN), Florida State at South Florida (ABC), Iowa at Rutgers (ESPN2), Colorado State at Minnesota (ESPNU) and Nevada at Purdue (ESPNews).

Games at 3:30 p.m. include West Virginia at BYU (ESPN2), Penn State at Michigan (ABC), Florida at Tennessee (CBS), Duke at Notre Dame (NBC), Pittsburgh at north Carolina (ESPNU), Boise State at Oregon State (Fox Sports 1) and Miami, Ohio at Cincinnati (ESPNews).

Later comes Vanderbilt at Western Kentucky (CBS Sports, 4:30 p.m.), LSU at Auburn (ESPN, 6 p.m.), Houston vs. Texas State (ESPNU, 7 p.m.), Louisville at Marshall (CBS Sports, 8 p.m.), Bowling Green at Memphis (ESPNews, 8 p.m.), Texas A&M vs. Arkansas (ESPN, 9 p.m.), California at Arizona State (ESPN2, 10 p.m.) and Air Force at Utah State (ESPNU, 10:15 p.m.).

Baseball today includes St. Louis at Cubs (Fox, 1 p.m.), Yankees at Toronto (MLB, 4 p.m.), Philadelphia at Mets (MLB, 7 p.m.) and Colorado at Dodgers (MLB, 10 p.m.).

Third round play continues in the Tour Championship (Golf, 10 a.m.; NBC, noon).

In the World Cup of Hockey semifinal game, it’s Russia vs. Canada (ESPN2, 7 p.m.).

Alabama Shakes and Vintage Trouble play “Austin City Limits” (PBS, 11 p.m.).

The season’s final rerun of “Saturday Night Live” (NBC, 11:30 p.m.) is the one hosted by Fred Armisen, with Courtney Barnett as musical guest. Season 42 starts next week.
