For a band whose jams would go on a half hour or more, whose career lasted decades, and whose bio film is called “Long Strange Trip” (Amazon, streaming), from a line in “Truckin,’” it seems right that Amir Bar-Lev’s bio film on the Grateful Dead is also four hours long. The early, lesser-seen footage of Jerry Garcia as an old timey music fan in the 60s might be most interesting, but there is also there history with Ken Kesey’s acid tests, the summer of love from a half century ago, and the strange, major cultural phenomenon they became decades later. It may just inspire a climb into a tie-dye to do a wavy dance.
