Elián Gonzalez, the 5-year-old boy who, rescued from the sea while en route to the U.S., and famously returned to Cuba in 1999, is now 23 and something of a folk hero in his island country. He tells his story in Tim Golden’s documentary “Elián” (CNN, 10 p.m.), premiering tonight unless there’s some crazy breaking news.
Another documentary, “What Carter Lost,” chronicles the Dallas Carter High School football team, which included in its winning record beating the team that inspired “Friday Night Lights.” That’s until investigators looked into the grades, legitimacy and in some cases, prison records of some of the players. The team’s rise and fall in the late 1980s is recounted by the players in the new documentary by Adam Hootnick on “30 for 30” (ESPN, 9:30 p.m.).
“Boy Band” (ABC, 8 p.m.) reaches its first season finale, possibly with five of the remaining eight forming a boy band that may well go on to conquer the charts (but most likely not).
