One of TV’s sharpest wits gets another shot with a new show “At Home with Amy Sedaris” (truTV, 10:30 and 11 p.m.) that, in the tradition of her line of books, both celebrates the craftiness of home projects and pokes fun at them, on a fanciful set where she steps out of the shower in front of towels that say “Hers” and “Hers, Too” and agrees to cook for “dull businessmen” played by Paul Giamatti, Todd Barry and Josh Hamilton. Amid the special guests on the first two episodes that show tonight, she also turns in some nifty songs.
Also new on cable tonight is “Drop the Mic” (TBS, 10:30 p.m.), the variation on a bit from James Corden’s late night show, in which celebrities are pitted in a rap battle with rhymes that are helpfully provided by comedy writers. Method Man and model Hailey Baldwin host.
Another rapper finds yet another new gig in TV on “Snoop Dogg Presents the Jokers Wild” (TBS, 10 p.m.), on which the rapper who has a knack of making everything cool also makes this old 70s game show cool again as well, with categories that reflect his taste: from “Pimpin Ain’t Easy” to “Gin and Jews.”
The World Series (Fox, 8 p.m.) begins in Los Angeles, where the temperature will be a record high, maybe into the 100s at game time, making you think of another California Series catastrophe, the 1989 San Francisco earthquake. Perhaps that will get commentators to chat about climate change amid the play by play of Game 1 of Astros at Dodgers.
The British comedian has a standup special online, “Jack Whitehall: At Large” (Netflix, streaming).
Battle rounds end and peace presumably prevails on “The Voice” (NBC, 8 p.m.).
Ta-Nehisi Coates, Ava DuVernay and Janet Mock are “Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr.” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings).
Barry’s bad luck on “The Flash” (The CW, 8 p.m.) are being created by a new villain named Hazard.
“Bull” (CBS, 9 p.m.) has to argue a case in Native American tribal court.
There are a couple more surprises to unwrap on “This is Us” (NBC, 9 p.m.), the show that lives to toy with your emotions.
Josh Charles turns out to be the star witness for the prosecution on “Law and Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders” (NBC, 10 p.m.).
“The Middle” (ABC, 8 p.m.) also has a murder mystery, this one Halloween themed.
It’s Halloween, too, on “The Mayor” (ABC, 9:30 p.m.).
And George Takei guest stars on a Halloween-themed “Fresh off the Boat” (ABC, 8:30 p.m.).
Reeves’ girlfriend is kidnapped on “NCIS” (CBS, 8 p.m.).
On “NCIS: New Orleans” (CBS, 10 p.m.), Sebastian is placed on administrative leave.
Sara travels to the future on “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” (The CW, 9 p.m.) in order to capture a rogue time traveler.
“Chopped” (Food, 10 p.m.) gets all scientific.
“American Horror Story: Cult” (FX, 10 p.m.) is up to episode eight.
“Kevin (Probably) Saves the World” (ABC, 10 p.m.) helps out a diner owner.
There’s a rough game night on “Blackish” (ABC, 9 p.m.).
“Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath” (A&E, 10 p.m.) has now turned to panel discussions.
A wedding planner is hired on “Gucci Mane and Keshia Ka’oir: The Mane Event” (BET, 10 p.m.).
Sounds like “The Little Couple” (TLC, 9 p.m.) go on a Duck Tour in D.C.
The penultimate Tuesday of classic horror films this month on Turner Classic Movies moves to the 1960s with “The Innocents” (8 p.m.), “Diary of a Madman” (10 p.m.), “Curse of the Demon” (midnight), “Carnival of Souls” (2 a.m.) and “From Beyond the Grave” (3:30 a.m.).
NBA action includes Chicago at Cleveland (NBA, 7 p.m.) and New Orleans at Portland (NBA, 10 p.m.).
Hockey has Detroit at Buffalo (NBC Sports, 7:30 p.m.).
