For the second year in a row, a top “Daily Show” correspondent steps up at the annual high point of political humor, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner (CSPAN, CNN, MSNBC, 8 p.m.).
Michelle Wolf, who rose quickly on Comedy Central and is soon to have her own show on Netflix, will perform at the event, the first woman to do so since Cecily Strong in 2015.
For the second year in a row, the president will not be in attendance, sending Sarah Huckabee Sanders to take the blows for him. He’ll be off instead doing his own comedy routine in the form of a rally to partisans in Michigan.
Given his reluctance to face comedians or criticism of late, the “Comedy Central Roast of Donald Trump” (Comedy Central, midnight), from 2011, will be rerun.
But you’d be just as likely, I suppose, to see the president at “Best in Sex: The 2018 AVN Awards” (Showtime, 11 p.m.). But the porn Oscars occurred in Paradise, Nev., in January.
Prime time hockey has game 2 in the Stanley Cup playoff series of San Jose at Vegas (NBC, 8 p.m.). Earlier, it’s Boston at Tampa Bay (NBC, 3 p.m.).
Other live sports on prime time tonight has Lopez vs. Cruz (Fox, 8:30 p.m.) in a welterweight boxing match.
On the made for TV “The Beach House” (Hallmark, 9 p.m.), a city woman returns to fix up the family beach house, with Minka Kelly, Andie McDowell and Chad Michael Murray.
Things are less cheery on another made-for-TV movie, “Fiance Killer” (Lifetime Movie Network, 8 p.m.), with Kari Wuhrer and Felisha Cooper.
“The Hitman’s Bodyguard” (HBO, 8 p.m.), the buddy film with Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson, makes its premium cable premiere, as does the horror film “Amityville: The Awakening” (Starz, 8 p.m.), with Bella Thorne, Cameron Monaghan and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
On “Ransom” (CBS, 8 p.m.), a former Guantanamo guard is taken hostage by terrorists.
A newborn snow leopard gets help on “The Zoo 2” (Animal Planet, 9 p.m.).
A family whose toddler overcame cancer is helped on “Trading Spaces” (TLC, 8 p.m.). A woman with back surgery is aided by “Nate and Jeremiah by Design” (TLC, 9 p.m.).
“Iyanla: Fix My Life” (OWN, 9 p.m.) works with Philando Castile’s fiancee Diamond Reynolds with the help of Trayvon Martin’s mother.
Two weeks late: “Friday the 13th: The Shocking Truth” (Reelz, 9 p.m.).
“Ghost Adventures” (Travel, 9 p.m.) goes to the Palace Saloon in Prescott, Ariz.
A Doctor Who precursor gets the spotlight on Turner Classic Movies tonight with Professor Bernard Quatermass in “The Quartermass Xperiment” (8 p.m.), “Five Million Years to Earth” (9:45 p.m.) and “Hollow Triumph” (midnight).
NBA playoff games include Milwaukee at Boston (TNT, 8 p.m.) in a determining game seven of the series, and New Orleans at Golden State (TNT, 10:30 p.m.) in the first game of their second round series.
The NFL Draft (ESPN, ABC, noon) drags on to rounds four through save.
