The 91st Annual Academy Awards (ABC, 8 p.m.) has no official host, but it may be interesting that way. A wide array of figures announcing the best picture nominees will include Chef José Andrés, Dana Carvey, Queen Latifah, Congressman John Lewis, Diego Luna, Tom Morello, Mike Myers, Trevor Noah, Amanda Sternberg, Barbra Streisand and Serena Williams.
Best song performers will include Jennifer Hudson, Bette Midler, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, Queen with Adam Lambert, and Gillian Welch and David Rawlings.
An event almost as overblown as the Super Bowl gets a days worth of preshow, with “Countdown to the Red Carpet: Oscars 2019” (E!, 1 p.m.) followed by “Live from the Red Carpet: Oscars 2019” (E, 5 p.m.). The network has its own 90-minute “Live on the Red Carpet” (ABC, 6:30 p.m.) as well.
Will anyone want to stay up once it’s over to watch the first episode of the silly caper series “Whiskey Cavalier” (ABC, approximately 11:35 p.m.)? It will show again in its regular time slot Wednesday at 10 p.m.
The biggest competition to all the hubbub is the third season finale of “True Detective” (HBO, 9 p.m.), where Wayne struggles with his memories even as the truth of the case is finally revealed. It goes on almost an extra 20 minutes.
On “Victoria” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings), Albert and Palmerston put their reputations on the line.
Mo takes Dawn to the Predator’s Ball on “Black Monday” (Showtime, 10 p.m.).
Pete goes on the road in a new “Crashing” (HBO, 10:19 p.m.).
“High Maintenance” (HBO, 10:53 p.m.) also has a new episode, featuring a veterinarian who tries micro-dosing mushrooms.
A blackout occurs on “Shameless” (Showtime, 9 p.m.).
“SMILF” (Showtime, 10:30 p.m.) has a flashback to 2014.
It was sure good to have “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” (HBO, 11:18 p.m.) return last week. It’s 20 minutes late, so you may be able to catch all of the Oscars live first.
“Lost Beasts of the Ice Age” (Science, 8 p.m.) looks for the woolly mammoth and the like.
On the new “Evan Goes Wild” (Animal Planet, 9 p.m.), the veterinarian Evan Antin travels the globe to help out wildlife.
Returning for its seventh season is “Dr. K’s Exotic Animal ER” (Nat Geo Wild, 9 p.m.).
The so-called national emergency weighs on “The Circus: Inside the Wildest Political Show on Earth” (Showtime, 8 p.m.).
Abigail brings telephones to Hope Valley on the sixth season premiere of “When Calls the Heart” (Hallmark, 8 p.m.).
The family has moved into a new house but there’s no time for a housewarming party on “Meet the Peetes” (Hallmark, 9 p.m.).
On “The Walking Dead” (AMC, 9 p.m.), a supply run turns dangerous.
Turner Classic Movies continues on its 31 Days of Oscar with two best pictures that had no other awards, “The Broadway Melody” (8 p.m.) and “Grand Hotel” (10 p.m.), followed by two films Conrad A. Nervig won for editing, “King Solomon’s Mines” (midnight) and “Eskimo” (2 a.m.). All day, it’s all nominated musicals, with “42nd Street” (5:30 a.m.), “Easter Parade” (7 a.m.), “Lili” (9 a.m.), “A Hard Day’s Night” (10:30 a.m.), “High Society” (12:15 p.m.), “The Music Man” (2:15 p.m.) and “1776” (5 p.m.).
Hockey has St. Louis at Minnesota (NBC Sports, 7 p.m.).
Basketball includes Clippers at Denver (NBA, 5 p.m.) and San Antonio at New York (NBA, 7:30 p.m.).
Spring baseball includes Yankees at Tampa Bay (MLB, 1 p.m.).
