The new family mystery “Home Before Dark” (Apple TV +, streaming) seems at first far-fetched: a murder cracked by a 9-year-old self-declared reporter. But the character of Brooklynn Prince (of “The Florida Project”) is based on the work of Hilde Lysiak, an enterprising young reporter I met. Looks kind of entertaining too.
On the new sci-fi series “Tales from the Loop” (Amazon, streaming), a rural town deals with a machine designed to solve the mysteries of the universe. Based on the art of Simon Stålenhag, it includes the music of Philip Glass. The cast includes Rebecca Hall, Tyler Barnhardt and Jonathan Pryce.

“High Maintenance” (HBO, 11 p.m.) ends its fine season with a snowstorm that shuts down the city at Christmas, and its sheltering in place looks awfully familiar.
James Marsters, William Sadler and Mark Dacascos all return for the two hour series finale of the reinstituted “Hawaii Five-0” (CBS, 9 p.m.). The new version with Alex O’Loughlin didn’t last quite as long as the original that aired from 1968-80. But ten seasons is a pretty good run.

In the action/comedy “Coffee & Kareem” (Netflix, streaming), a 12 year old (Terrence Little Gardenhigh) tries to scare away Ed Helms from dating his mom (Taraji P. Henson).
A welcome voice at a time when a lot of Americans are becoming reacquainted with home cooking is “Dishing with Julia Child” (PBS, 10 p.m.) in which the classic TV chef is feted by today’s culinary stars, starting with Jose Andres, Eric Ripert, Vivian Howard, Marcus Samuelson, Carla Hall and Sara Moulton.
“Pooka Lives!” (Hulu, streaming), part of the “Into the Dark” series, is a sequel of an earlier Pooka episode, about internet trolls. Malcolm barrett, Felicia Day, Will Wheaton and Lyndie Greenwood star.
A second season starts for the animated “Harley Quinn” (DC Universe, streaming).
“Future Man” (Hulu, streaming) starts a second season.
The animated Pixar feature “Onward” (Disney+, streaming), which premiered in theaters last month, makes a quick move to streaming. Chris Pratt and Tom Holland lend their voices as elf brothers.
“MacGyver” (CBS, 8 p.m.) goes after a bomber in an episode with guest stars Jeri Ryan, Peter Weller and Tate Donovan.
“Real Time with Bill Maher” (HBO, 10 p.m.) is the last of the topical late night shows to try and get back in the business during the pandemic. Minus an audience, the host has virtual interactions with a more high profile bunch than usual: Sen. Bernie Sanders, Willie Nelson, Seth MacFarlane, L.A. mayor Eric Garrett and author Max Brooks.
On “The Blacklist” (NBC, 8 p.m.) a series of data centers are attacked.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” (VH1, 8 p.m.) plays “The Snatch Game.”
Blake and Cristal get charitable on “Dynasty” (CW, 8 p.m.).
On “Shahs of Sunset” (Bravo, 9 p.m.), GG gets emergency surgery on.
The team is forced to stop for repairs on “Vagrant Queen” (Syfy, 9 p.m.).
Turner Classic Movies has movies about unexpectant parents tonight: “Baby Boom” (8 p.m.), “Bachelor Mother” (10 p.m.) and “Father is a Bachelor” (11:45 p.m.). Then comes two bad Noel Black films of the early 70s, “Cover Me Babe” (2 a.m.) and “Jennifer on My Mind” (3:45 a.m.).
During the day are movies about housekeepers: “Emma” (6 a.m.), “It All Came True” (7:30 a.m.), “Captain Hurricane” (9:15 a.m.), “Panama Flo” (10:30 p.m.), “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father” (noon), “Make Your Own Bed” (2:15 p.m.), “The Girl Downstairs” (3:45 p.m.), “Personal Maid’s Secret” (5:15 p.m.) and “The Man with a Cloak” (6:30 p.m.).
