A nifty – and brief – new docuseries “Love Fraud” (Showtime, 9 p.m.) delves into the case of a Midwestern con man who romances, fleeces and leaves dozens of older women. The series follows a group of them who hire a bounty hunter to help track him down, warn others and seek justice. And the filmmakers behind “Jesus Camp” are on the hunt with them.
For the young, there seems to be a lot of love fraud on “Love Island” (CBS, 9 p.m.).
The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards (MTV, CW, VH1, BET, TV Land, Comedy Central, 8 p.m.) was to have returned to Brooklyn this year, but the pandemic required its distanced performances without audiences is spread out all over New York City. Among them are Lady Gaga and Adriana Grande who are each nominated for nine awards, along with Black Eyed Peas, BTS, CNCO, Doja Cat, Maluma, Da Baby, The Weeknd. J Balvin and Roddy Ricch were to have performed but pulled out. Koke Palmer hosts. And for the first time, the onetime cable-only party is on network TV as well.
Marvel Studios and ABC are all part of the Disney empire, so they’ll be saluting the legacy of Chadwick Boseman, whose death of cancer Friday at the age of 43 shocked film fans with the network premiere of the hit “Black Panther” (ABC, 8 p.m.), in which he starred, commercial-free. It will be followed by a special on his life, “Chadwick Boseman — A Tribute for a King” (ABC, 10:20 p.m.).
“Top Gear” (BBC America, 8 p.m.) kicks off a new season with a special in Nepal.
