A second new streaming Meryl Streep movie in as many days? You bet. After her turn in Stephen Soderbergh’s “Let them All Talk” on HBO Max Thursday, here’s Streep in Ryan Murphy’s version of the musical “The Prom” (Netflix, streaming), starring with James Corden as failing Broadway stars who decide to help an Indiana high school girl (Jo Ellen Pellman) who only wants to go to prom with her girlfriend (Ariana DeBose). Keegan-Michael Key, Kerry Washington, Nicole Kidman and Andrew Rannells round out the cast.
It leads a load of new films on streaming services that also includes “I’m Your Woman” (Amazon Prime, streaming), in which Rachel Brosnahan sheds her Mrs. Maisel character to play a woman on the run with her child because of her husband’s crimes. Arinzé Kene and Marsha Stephanie Black also star.
“Safety” (Disney+, streaming) stars Jay Reeves as former Clemson University football safety Ray Ray McElrathbey, playing through adversity.
That’s in addition to the confusingly titled special “High School Musical: The Musical: Holiday Special” (Disney+, streaming) in which the cast from the reboot sing seasonal songs.
The new animated film “Wolfwalkers” (Apple TV+, streaming) follows an apprentice hunter going after the last wolfpack in Ireland.
An animated special for younger kids, “A Trash Truck Christmas” (Netflix, streaming), is a holiday edition of “Trash Truck,” which is a Netflix Jr. kids show.
