It’s the season for music, at least on television.
Kevin Bacon and Eve host “Play On: Celebrating the Power of Music to Make Change” (CBS, 8 p.m.) with performers including Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr, Sara Bareilles, Sheryl Crow, Jon Batiste, Bon Jovi, The Highwomen, LL Cool J, Maren Morris, and (pictured above) Andra Day and Ziggy Marley. They’ll play on three famous stages: the Troubadour in Los Angeles, the Apollo Theater in New York City and the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. Money will be raised for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and WhyHunger.
Today will also bring a second season of the series “Song Explorer” (Netflix, streaming), in which musicians talk about individual songs. This time, “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails, “Love Again” by Dua Lipa, “When You Were Young” by the Killers and “Hasta La Raiz” by Natalie Lafourcade.
A winner is named on the finale of “The Voice” (NBC, 9 p.m.), Jennifer Hudson, Black Eyed Peas, Luke Combs, Lady Antebellum and Dua Lipa, joining performing judges Gwen Stefani, John Legend, Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson, as well as some of the season’s contestants. A review of last night’s performances comes at 8.
Of holiday sounds, “Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas with Vanessa Williams” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings) pays tribute to the classic album with performances by Dee Dee Bridgewater, Norm Lewis, Carmen Ruby Floyd, Nova Payton, Dave Detwiler and Morgan James.
A new “Frontline” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings) looks into the case of an American woman who moved to Syria in 2015 to fight with Isis, her disillusionment, and her return to the U.s. (and to prison).
