All of a sudden they’re kidnapped and tortured by a mysterious terror group that hacked their emails and perked up at their research into poisonings. Who are these people? We’ll never know, since their backs are to the camera the whole time although their voices are dubbed by the same two guys.

Anyone expect actual action in this action movie parody will have to make do with crude animations that jarringly intrude a couple of times.

Eventually, they literally show the storyboards instead. And the big scene at the end is done with dolls and a playhouse set. Poorly, I might add.

The two might have held off making the film entirely until they raised a bit more money so it didn’t crater so badly in the second half.

Of the two, Silvera especially has the kind of comic energy of Nick Kroll, and their exchanges have the raunchy humor of Kroll shows like “Big Mouth.” Kenealy seems to change shape in the movie a bit, which is understandable since this took six years to make.

Other than showing the absolute limits of the lowest of low budget movies, this wears out its welcome at just about the time they get restrained by their captors. That’s when the audience may feel every bit as trapped.

“In Action” will be available on video on demand May 7.
