There’s a definite small town “Parks and Recreation” vibe to the latest comedy from Michael Schur and Ed Helms in which the latter portrays a descendent of a man whose statue stands in the middle of town and needs to  be removed. “Rutherford Falls” (Peacock, streaming) also stars Jana Schmieding, Dustin Milligan, Michael Greyeyes and Dana L. Wilson. 

Melissa Villaseñor hosts a virtual Film Independent Spirit Awards (IFC, 10 p.m.) that celebrates indie movies in advance of the Oscars. This year, they’re also recognizing outstanding TV series as well. 

Cher goes to Pakistan to save an elephant, and to sing “My Way” to him, in a documentary that chronicles her attempt to move the four-ton elephant Kaavan more than 2,300 miles amid the pandemic. “Cher & the Loneliest Elephant” (Paramount+, streaming) is one of several Earth Day specials today.

A much younger eco-activist is celebrated in the new three-hour “Greta Thunberg; A Year to Change the World” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings). 

The three part “Life in Color with David Attenborough” (Netflix, streaming) looks at how animals use their hues.

James Cameron produces the four-part “Secrets of the Whales” (Disney+, streaming) that looks into the lives of orcas, humpbacks, narwhals, belugas and sperm whales. Sigourney Weaver narrates.

Another special looks at the “Kingdom of Polar Bears” (Nat Geo Wild, 9 p.m.) with polar bear guide Dennis Compayre.
