TV dating shows are reaching the saturation point, even as the atolls where they are set expand. To the existing “Temptation Island” and current “Love Island” (CBS, 9 p.m.) is the ridiculous new “FBoy Island” (HBO Max, streaming). In name, it outdoes the fictional “MILF Island” on “30 Rock”; in practice, it offers three women choosing between men who have self identified either as “nice guys” or the kind of cads glad to adopt the show’s vulgar title (As if there are no men in between). The women in charge are not sympathetic, leaving Nikki Glaser the standout as the wisecracking host with contempt for most everybody involved.
Announced yesterday, and with all 12 episodes premiering today, “Prince” (HBO Max, streaming) is an animated show about the imagined life of Prince George, the 8-year-old son of Prince Harry. He comes off as a kind of an annoying Richie Rich type, surrounded by exaggerated cartoons of the Royal Family, whose depiction of now dead Prince Philip seems even more tasteless. It’s from the “Family Guy” writer Gary Janetti, using the voice talents that include such UK stars Orlando Bloom, Alan Cumming and Sophie Turner.
With the original Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo back in a recent Geico ad, it’s a little unsettling to see revised versions of them in the new “Jellystone!” (HBO Max, streaming), a series that includes a huge portion of the Hanna-Barbera roster, including Huckleberry Hound, Snagglepuss, Wally Gator, Top Cat, Jabberjaw and Jonny Quest, with Cindy Bear now having a prominent role. Some characters are not instantly recognizable in the new designs by C.H. Greenblatt (“Chowder”); others have wholly different voices. And they perceive Augie Doggie as female.
Less than 10 days after the basketball postseason ended, here’s the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft (ABC, ESPN, 8 p.m.) looking forward to next year’s teams. ESPN continues with the second round at 11 p.m.
It plays opposite an even bigger primetime sports on the 2021 Tokyo Olympics (NBC, 8 p.m.), where you might think the only two sports being played are gymnastics and swimming.
