One way around COVID during the pandemic has been to animate shows rather than act in them. That works well in the special all-cartoon episode of “PEN15” (Hulu, streaming), which is as sharply written a scene of embarrassing middle school girlhood. The one-off episode “Jacuzzi” concerns a trip to Florida that doesn’t go entirely well for our yearning heroes Anna and Maya, who are instantly insulted by their renderings by a boardwalk caricature artist (and suddenly turn into them – something that wouldn’t have been as easy in a live action version). It’s both a welcome visit from our favorite awkward teens (or teen wannabes) and a nice vacation respite.
To fill the never-ending appetite for streaming teen rom-coms, here’s an inversion of the 1999 hit “She’s All That” called “He’s All That” (Netflix, streaming), with Addison Rae and Tanner Buchanan, and this time about an influencer.
Small business owners across the country are profiled on the new series “Self Employed” (Discovery+, streaming), hosted by Jonathan Morris.
“Titletown High” (Netflix, streaming) follows the Valdosta, Ga., High School Football Team. Hope they’re vaxxed.
A followup to the animated musical “Arlo the Alligator,” the new series “I Heart Arlo” (Netflix, streaming) continues the adventures of the half-human, half-alligator as he moves to New York.
John Cena and Lil Rel Howery star in the raunchy new comedy “Vacation Friends” (Hulu, streaming).
