It’s never bad to pair Steve Martin and Martin Short, but their new 10-episode mystery series “Only Murders in the Building” (Hulu, streaming) doesn’t quite work. The idea of elderly sleuths in New York, inexplicably teaming with a young woman a third their age — Selena Gomez, looking for an exit — (along with the New Yorker style typeface used for the title) brings to mind such middling Woody Allen efforts as the 1993 “Manhattan Murder Mystery.” The humor isn’t exactly ubridled and only occasionally rises to the level of amusing; the crime elements so mild it robs the story of any intrigue. Still, there are notable cameos that pop up while you’re awaiting the next laugh.

Marie Kondo returns to clean up businesses and communities as well in her new series “Sparking Joy” (Netflix, streaming). I guess everybody needs their sock drawers reorganized.

The special “Generation 9/11” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings) tracks down seven teens who weren’t born yet when their fathers died in the 9/11 terror attacks.

It plays opposite the third night of “9/11: One Day in America” (Fox, 9 p.m.) concentrates on rescue efforts.

Not only is “Bachelor in Paradise” (ABC, 8 p.m.) on twice a week; so is its companion “The Ultimate Surfer” (ABC, 10 p.m.).

Semifinals begin for “America’s Got Talent” (NBC, 8 p.m.) and wrap up on the “Capital One College Bowl” (NBC, 10 p.m.).
