The success of the Kevin Costner western “Yellowstone” (Paramount, 8 p.m.) is strong enough to warrant a spinoff prequel, “1883” (Paramount, 9 p.m.), showing how the Dutton clan first settled in Montana. Sam Elliott, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and Billy Bob Thornton all star. The series itself continues on the streaming service Paramount+.

The fourth and final season of “Claws” (TNT, 9 p.m.) returns with a pair of episodes, with the casino out of the picture.

“A Charlie Brown Christmas” (PBS, 7:30 p.m.) gets its broadcast showcase tonight — and better yet, it’s commercial free.

A big broadcast network has its own holiday romance movie tonight, but “Christmas Takes Flight” (CBS, 8 p.m.) has pretty much the same plot as the scores of cable offerings with Katie Lowes as a pilot for a family-owned airline about to be gobbled up by a guy from a corporate airline (Evan Williams) and they eventually get along.

What can fill the void after “Succession”? Certainly not “And Just Like That…” (HBO, 8:30 and 9:15 p.m.), the incalculably bad sequel to “Sex and the City” that sneaks over from HBO Max for one night.

There are new episodes of “Insecure” (HBO, 10 p.m.) and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (HBO, 10:30 p.m.).

It’s one of five holiday movies tonight at about the same time, “Christmas Together” (UPtv, 7 p.m.), “’Tis the Season to Be Merry” (Hallmark, 8 p.m.) with Rachael Leigh Cook and Travis Van Winkle, “Under the Christmas Tree” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.) with Elise Bauman and Tattiawna Jones and “Joy at Christmas” (GAC Family, 8 p.m.) with Cindy Busby and Sam Page.
