A lesson in how to tell a story succinctly comes when the 1966 original animated “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” (NBC, 8 p.m.) is followed by the bloated 2000 Jim Carrey “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (NBC, 8:30 p.m.). Elsewhere is the 2018 computer animated version “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch” (Telemundo, 7 p.m.) — in Spanish.

Turner Classic Movies’ Christmas marathon winds up today with “Beyond Tomorrow” (6 a.m.), “Star in the Night” (7:30 a.m.), “Tenth Avenue Angel” (8 a.m.), “Little Women” (9:30 a.m.), “Love Finds Andy Hardy” (11:30 a.m.), “O Henry’s Full House” (1:30 p.m.), “It Happened on Fifth Avenue” (3:45 p.m.) and “In the Good Old Summertime” (6 p.m.). But tonight, it’s back to hosts’ favorites. Tonight, Ben Mankiewicz picks two from 1957, “The Bridge on the River Kwai” (8 p.m.) and “Witness for the Prosecution” (11 p.m.). 

NFL games today have Cleveland at Green Bay (Fox, NFL, 4:30 p.m.) and Indianapolis at Arizona (NFL, 8:15 p.m.). 

Somehow the NBA has avoided the postponements and cancellations that have hit other professional sports in recent weeks and they’re determined to put ten teams out there for their annual Christmas array of games including Atlanta at New York (ESPN, noon), Boston at Milwaukee (ABC, 2:30 p.m.), Golden State at Phoenix (ABC, 5 p.m.), Brooklyn at Lakers (ABC, ESPN, 8 p.m.) and Dallas at Utah (ESPN, 10:30 p.m.). 

There’s just one college football bowl game today, with Georgia State vs. Ball State (ESPN, 2:30 p.m.) in the Cameillia Bowl.

Men’s college hoops has Wyoming vs. South Florida (ESPNU, 1:30 p.m.), Northern Iowa vs. Hawaii (ESPNU, 4 p.m.), Liberty vs. BYU (ESPN2, 6:30 p.m.) and Stanford vs. Vanderbilt (ESPN2, 8:30 p.m.). 

The Raconteurs and Black Pumas play a 2020 edition of “Austin City Limits” (PBS, 11 p.m., check local listings).

The Jason Sudeikis-hosted “Saturday Night Live” (NBC, 11:30 p.m.) episode from October is rerun, with Brandi Carlile as musical guest. A pretty good episode, as I recall.
