Just as they’ve instituted a midnight noir movie, and a Sunday night silent showcase, Turner Classic Movies begins a new franchise for Saturday noons, the Musical Matinee, hosted by Dave Karger. His first choice is a good one: “An American in Paris” (noon), with Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron.
Tonight is the start of a month-long series on weekends, “Reframed: Films that Shaped Our Culture,” that begins with “I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang” (8 p.m.) and “Imitation of Life” (10 p.m.). This week’s noir is “City of Fear” (midnight). Then comes a couple of films about boys who became crime witnesses: “Stand by Me” (2 a.m.) and “The Window” (3:45 a.m.).
The World Series has been pretty good, and tonight you can justify staying up until midnight to watch it all. Game 6 of Philadelphia at Houston (Fox, 8 p.m.) moves to Texas, with the Astros up 3-2 in the series.
There are also two college football games on network TV in prime time: Florida State at Miami (ABC, 7:30 p.m.) and Clemson at Notre Dame (NBC, 7:30 p.m.).
But the first Major League Soccer championship game is a little earlier in the day, with Los Angeles at Philadelphia (Fox, 4 p.m.).
You may not have had a chance to consider the Thanksgiving menu yet, but tonight there are already no less than five new Christmas movies premiering tonight: “Christmas in the Pines” (UPtv, 7 p.m.) with Jillian Murray and Dean Geyer; “Lights, Camera, Christmas!” (Hallmark, 8 p.m.) with Kimberley Sustad and John Brotherton; “Merry Swissmas” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.) with Jodie Sweetin and Tim Rozon; “A Royal Christmas on Ice” (Great American Family, 8 p.m.) with Jonathan Stoddard and Anna Marie Dobbins; and “A Maple Valley Christmas” (Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, 10 p.m.) with Andrew Walker.
