A couple of veterans of the 46 year old institution show how it’s done, as onetime cast member Martin Short and frequent guest star Steve Martin team up to host a holiday edition of “Saturday Night Live” (NBC, 11:30 p.m.). Already, their promo for this week is more clever than most of the actual sketches they’ve been doing this season. Brandi Carlile is musical guest. The cut-down rerun at 9 p.m. is 32 years old — a 1990 broadcast with Tom Hanks and Edie Zbrickell & New Bohemians.
The College Football season is almost over but for the bowl games; today has just the annual Army vs. Navy (CBS, 3 p.m.), and later, the Heisman Trophy Ceremony (ESPN, 8 p.m.)
Basketball gets a prime time showcase with Boston at Golden State (ABC, 7:30 p.m.).
“Amsterdam” (HBO, 8 p.m.), with Margot Robbie, Christian Bale, Taylor Swift and Anya Taylor-Joy, makes its premium cable debut.
“Atsuko Okatsuka: The Intruder” (HBO, 10 p.m.) is a new standup special.
Another half dozen new holiday movies make their debut. Chief among them may be the one starring the gospel star, “Kirk Franklin’s The Night Before Christmas” (Lifetime 8 p.m.) about a mother and daughter (Naturi Naughton and Lorea Turner) who find themselves snowed in at church.
