Fireworks on TV are still a thing, I guess because the programs can be muted for the dog’s sake. But there are musical acts to perform before all the smoke and color.
The Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular (NBC, 8 p.m.), from New York City, has Ashanti, Bebe Rexha, Jelly Roll, Brett Young, Ja Rule, Jazmine Sullivan, Rutledge Wood, Zuri Hall, Lainey Wilson and LL Cool J with DJ Z-Trip and The Roots. An hour-long version repeats at 10 p.m.
“A Capital Fourth” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings) has Chicago, Boyz II Men, Belinda Carlisle, Babyface, Renee Fleming, Alfonso Ribeiro, Maddie & Tae, Charles EstenAdrienne Warren, Ruthie Ann Miles, the Muppets, the National Symphony Orchestra, the casts of “A Beautiful Noise” and “The Neil Diamond Musical.” It repeats at 9:30 p.m.
Dana Bash and Boris Sanchez host the four hour “The Fourth in America” (CNN, 7 p.m.) from Washington D.C. with Alanis Morrissette, The All-American Rejects, Darius Rucker, Demi Lovato, Duran Duran, Flo Rida, Leon Bridges, Post Malone, Sheryl Crow, Smash Mouth, Zac Brown Band and Plain White Ts. Fireworks from other cities. A two hour version repeats at 11.
The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular (Bloomberg, 8 p.m.) finds an unusual home.
