Started with seven songs about the seventh month then a couple of long sets dedicated to the going out of business activity of a certain department store chain with a weird, weird name.

But Capital Radio also celebrated the birthdays of Mavis Staples (who turns 84 today), Imelda May (49), Neil Tennant of Pet Shop Boys (69), Jerry Miller of Moby Grape (80), Greg Kihn (74), Bela Fleck (65) and Arlo Guthrie (76). Also: Ian Whitcomb, born on this day in 1941, Jumpin’ Gene Simmons (1937) and Blind Boy Fuller (1904).

Altogether there was a song by R. Crumb and another that inspired him; a song sung by Jeff Tweedy and another one produced by him; two songs featuring Dusty Springfield; two written by Woody Guthrie; one track with Elvis Costello singing lead and another with him in the background.
